Thanks everyone for your helpful input! After combing all the discount sites, I ended up ordering two comforters (was looking for my guest room, too) from Macy's. I had looked in the store, but never thought to check their Web site - it's huge! Since I've been searching for something so specific regarding fabric and color, I thought it best to be able to make a return without having to spend money on shipping. These were 20% off + free shipping, so the cost went from astronomical to not-quite-as-astronomical. But, both seem to fit the bill, are cotton and MACHINE WASHABLE! Ordered this for our bedroom. I think it will work against my deep-blue walls and dark furniture, but brighten up the room by pulling in the our white trim. Got this for the guest room, which has mocha walls and drapes with hints of light blue. It's a very "moody" room. I had a Chris Madden comforter set from Penny's which had decorative tassels that started falling apart - last time I ever try that. This set has the same color range, and I'm hoping it will match the blueish sheets and brown skirt I already have. We'll see. Keeping my fingers crossed!

Credomk, welcome to GW! You're right about getting some great ideas here. Have you thought of painting your furniture for a different look? Maybe you're not finding bedding because the furniture is a little outdated, and the bedding seems 'out of sync' with it. Penney's has some wonderful duvets as well as comforters and bedspreads, and they're not over-priced. Good luck. ;o)

My first down comforter was from Macy's (Charter Club House) and was a great deal. My second down comforter was from CalvinKlein.com and their sale with free shipping was less than the one Macy's sent me that was too big due to Macy's having the wrong measurements so I ordered the wrong size. I love my comforter since it is so warm and looks so nice in my duvet cover. I just checked the site and their were no special sales/deals like my 600 count Siberian Good Down Comforter with free shipping for $279.00 1.5 years ago. I used to use so many blankets to get warm and now I just use a duvet over this very warm comforter with my fancy ivory comforter on top for more warmth in the winter time. In the summer time, I am finding it just too warm.

Rather eclectic-ish traditional here - there's actually a fairly narrow range that appeals to me, so stuff tends to fall together relatively easily. There are a few more current pieces that push the "traditional" toward "eclectic", just because they fit our needs and budget at the time and worked all right with the places we lived in at the time (more contemporary than our current digs), but most of it's bland or generic enough that it sort of disappears. I'm looking forward to phasing out some of it, although I'm still fond of my leather couch. One of the suckier things about moving four times in seven years! What Red calls "Early Hovel" we always called "Early Attic and Neo-Yardsale". :-) Up until about 5 years ago that was our decorating "style", if you could call it that, and we both loathed it. (DH actually does have an interest in decorating, nowhere near as much as I do but if a color is "off" it with drive him NUTS! LOL) Apartments full of cheap/scrounged, battered, often rickety junk and not a plug nickel to replace any of it. I have developed a passionate hatred of futon couches as a result of that era. ;-) We did have a "Frasier" recliner for about a year, but it went back out on the curb the day we brought a kitten home. I have a shortage of convenient relatives from whom to mooch ;-) inherit really interesting furniture (and a shortage of said interesting furniture, actually, since for the most part they much preferred getting rid of "that old junk" in favor of new matching sets that looked tatty within a decade), unfortunately.
