Dining room- more transitional, less traditional??
Comments (73)I like moody colors for dining rooms too, but I think this one can have that on the walls and go with the lighter chandelier ( I am faviring the capiz and you have said several times you love it). The capiz is not clear like crystal and you only need to do crystal once or twice a year -- and some folks say they do quick cleanings of those with a blast of compressed air (in a can, sold with office/computer supplies). I replaces a brass and porcelain chandelier that I thought needed rewiring (discovered some loose fittings when we went to take it down -- opps!) with a crystal chandelier. I get lab fur everywhere on the floors, but have never noticed a single hair at light fixture level -- even on the crystal. I think as long as the dog doesn't dance onthe table, you will be fine. If you love something, come back to it a couple of times adn it is still singing your song, I think that is the one you should go with. That's how it works for me. Have you done a mock up -- paste the photo of the chandeliers into the photo of your dining room. I had to do that with my kitchen island fixture so DH could "see" it, and there is a help me pick a chandelier thread going now -- I think it really helps sometimes....See MoreContemporary, traditional, country, modern? Comments (15)I'd just say beautiful!! Great job!! Your kitchen reminds me of my new master bath I'm putting together. Long time ago I saw some gorgeous light fixtures I had to have and they are over the top beautiful crystal and nickle and modern. I spent so much on lighting fixtures that wnen it came time for the cabinets/vanities I tried to find a way to save money. So I opted for some inexpensive, yet very nice vanities that are more of an antique style. Then we come to the flooring and shower. Well, the shower is now going to be glass block, which I believe is pretty generic when it comes to style, and the flooring is porcelain tile in a beige stone look. The walls are a gray/green/blue. So I'm holding my breath waiting to see what all these different elements look like when they are all in place in the same room. If nothing else, I'll just tell people it's shabby/chic!! My poor DH who doesn't know that much about interior design keeps reassuring me it will all look beautiful. I do so want to believe him!! That's what I'm going on right now and hoping for the best. Your kitchen is fabulous!!...See MoreSlab cabinets in a traditional/transitional kitchen?
Comments (11)Palimpsest, That is a great design but my kitchen is very different, unfortunately. Localeater, I actually really wanted cabinetry like that and had the Hansen blocks priced but they are unfortunately out of my current budget. If I were sure I'll be staying in the house for 10-15 years, I'd probably find the funds but if we end up selling, that investment won't be worth it. Westsider, I don't like shakers! I currently have very "elaborate" raised panel cabinets that came with the house, so I know what "pain to clean" means, LOL. I have tried and tried to like something other than slabs and I keep going back to them. :-( But the kitchen is not only "traditional" but also has some "old Italian" flavor. IDK what we were thinking when buying this house. But there was nothing "modern" in the neighborhoods we were interested in and this house was very unique compared to all others. Could you post pix of your kitchen? Modern_mom, I am very much looking forward your pix! And, btw, I don't mind seeing them w/o the backsplash, wink-wink. Thank you everyone for your responses. I'll try to find more pix resembling my kitchen and what I actually want....See MoreHELP Good sites for contemporary/transitional comforter sets
Comments (4)for choices on bedding, check online shopping sites like RueLaLa, Gilt, and OneKingsLane. Check return policy-usually easy but will depend on a manufacturer..and whether it's a final sale. You need to sign up for this, if you're not yet, but takes a second as is worth it. My favorite bedding was bought there. Antropologie and her "younger" cheaper sister, Urban Outfitters, carry a lot of bedding of very different styles. Prices vary a lot. For modern patterns (geometry, big bold florals, etc)check brand Marimekko..online, and also Crate and Barrel carries them. Also brands like Scion and Orla Kiely. Always look at several sites-you'll be able to compare prices, and check on ongoing promotions. Cheaper store/site that can have a fun choice-is indeed IKEA. And another site I like-eBay:) folks might buy something new and then reconsider, and put it for half a price for sale (some do the opposite-buy on sale, and put for a full price..that' not a good deal))...See Moremitchdesj
