My latest project ~ Mirror in Kitchen
Comments (38)I love the mirror and its frame, but its not my first choice for that space. My first thought was to get one of those faux type looking stone wall sculptures....that might not be the right name. They are usually and inch or 2 thick, made out of resin, but looks like plaster. They are sold like art. Here is something at Ballard Design, I dont know how to post the picture so here is the website http://www.ballarddesigns.com/Wall-Decor/Paintings-Prints/Whimsical-Prints/Individual%20Stones%20of%20Florence%20Giclé%3Be/p/6362?code=SHOPZ07 Its not that I like these from Ballard, its just to show the idea. I really liked the iron scroll idea too. Another thought is a framed print. There are tuns of framed art that have that kitchen flair to them....that fat cartoon looking waiter, fruit, roosters, etc. I see those items better suited in that spot than the mirror. Did you ever consider faux painting a stone pattern for your backsplash? When I googled stone art to post a picture, I saw some DYI Learn to faux paint stone. Kind of neat....See MoreMy newest bargain find- Cute Henredon Chair for $40
Comments (13)Love the tapestry idea! I searched for one a few years back, but could never find one that didn't look cheesy. (It seemed that all of the ones in my budget were the mass-produced sort that just looked like a Wal-Mart throw pillow stretched out!) It seems the *good* looking ones, aged, patinaed, and slightly worn are thousands. I'll have to renew that search. You're right Les, that everything looks smooth in the pic. In real life, though, without the flash washing things out, the wall is *heavily* textured in a sort of hand-troweled plaster look, and the chair is a tweed-type fabric. It almost looks like burlap. Or is the general appearance that seems smooth? Like it just needs more color/balance/texture in general? DH wants an oil painting. DH however would burst at the seams if I actually bought an oil painting. (I don't think he has any idea just how much they can run!) THottie, I never did a thing to the chairs in my den. They're in a room that is used mainly for kids; Wii playing, videos, plopping down after swimming, etc. They're so perfect as-is! Nothing can hurt them. The leather is such good shape, and it's impervious to the spilled Cokes, ground up Cheezits, and wet chlorine derrieres! Since I'm going to Charleston with my mom in a couple of weeks, I'll keep my eyes peeled for something that might work....See MoreRoadside finds and CL bargains transformed
Comments (30)Nicole, good for you for finding a way to make the chairs work for now, they are great chairs in such good shape. Are you sure, though, that you only need 4 yards of fabric each? I ask because I used 7 yards on my little chair. However, a fair piece of that was used to make the welting (although I made way more than I needed!). Here is the link to a yardage chart on a professional upholsterers site I found http://www.carrscorner.com/yardagechart.php I know what you mean about fabric price! I used CL fabric on my chair, but when I was looking for the dining chair fabric I was floored at the prices. That is why I'm using a table cloth to cover the one I'm presently working on! ;) Trancegemini, I am now kicking myself for not taking photos of the reconstruction of the chairs! Yesterday I started to rebuild the wooden chair shown above, and I started from scratch with it! I added all new webbing, replaced the springs and hand tied them, new burlap and now all new padding. I have tear-down photos of both chairs, but got so involved with putting things back together that I didn't think to record that process! Next time for sure. Double welting is the decorative trim used to cover raw ends, and I see from the link I just found that I can still use this on my pink chair looking at the way it is made, but I would have to purchase a special foot for my machine. The link to explain it is below. Scroll down to see all of the article and photos. Here is a link that might be useful: How to make/use double welt cord...See MoreHave YOU found any bargains or deals lately?
Comments (145)I meant to share this earlier- it's just a super handy dandy thingy that I found at the Dollar Tree ( so it is now $1.25) I keep my charging cables in here and can always find them easily. I keep it in my purse on a daily basis and when we traveled it was just so handy. All patterns and a few different shapes. Mine is about 2 1/2 or 3 inches square. and open- (it also has a net pocket inside. Gotta love it....See Moresleevendog (5a NY 6aNYC NL CA)
