Flooring Design Dilemma Bathrooms

Trying to pick bathroom tile and paint colour!

We just ordered our vanity, and we would like to get a move on picking floor tile & a paint colour. We currently have an off white subway tile in the bath/shower, and thats as much as we've done in the bathroom. Originally I was going for tones of grey and white. Any advice?

Well since the vanity you choose is all grey and white I would say stick to that plan. Depending on the "Off" of the white of your shower tile?? Is it a creamy yellow off white or a bluish off white??? If it is in the cream family you might need to find a way to tie that in with the grey and white colors. (yes, that can be done).

It is a creamier off white, doesn't really have a blue or yellow undertone. I was originally thinking a grey tile because then we don't have a bunch of different shades of white sitting beside each other, and then a light grey paint?

That shower curtain is pretty intense. Are you sure you want to keep it? It's just a little "precious" for older girls with that much pink, IMHO. The only color that I think could stand up to it with older girls would be a pretty bright orange, and try for a Morroccan casbah look with even more pattern and color and brass hanging lanterns and screens. Layer a cobalt blue curtain under the pink and use some metallic chains for the tieback for the pink curtain. Paint the ceiling turquoise. You can get some talavera or Turkish tiles on Ebay and frame them for an accent. If you have a drop in sink, you could replace it with a talavera one. They aren't that expensive and give lots of style. Cobalt blue bath accessories and rug with other hints of turquoise and pink here and there and it would be fab. As an alternqative, I could definately see doing a fun apple green and white bathroom, but not with that curtain. For green and white, use the chair rail/wainscoating approach and put the green below with white above. A fresh gingham check or ticking stripe for the shower curtain and add in more color with different shades of green towels. A dark green rug and various green accessories would complete the look.

I'm confused by your description of your walls. You said toilet and sink "walls", which means they are on different walls, so I assumed they are across from each other with that room size. That means the two 3' walls would be shiplapped with a painted 6' wall. That's what I'm advising against. I have seen photos on Houzz of the entire bath shiplapped partway up like a tall wainscoting with paint above. Search on shiplap/powder room for examples.

This is a Calcutta Gold porcelain tile. I has a hint of Cream in it that could tie everything together very nicely:

Get your vanity and paint ideas and a sample of the tile and look at them together in the room they will be in under both daylight and the lighting in the room after dark.

Somebody posted a picture of fan shaped mosaic marble that was gorgeous. I can't find the post but here is a picture that is similar. It was grouted with coordinating colour, no contrast and it looked so beautiful. Fan shaped marble mosaic.

We have no idea if you are thinking classic or modern looks for your bath. Maybe you could pull out some inspiration pictures from Houzz to see what else catches your eye.

This one is an all time favourite of mine - also quite a formal look basketweave

Or, if you are looking for larger scale floor tiles, there are many choices too. Marble tile. This would match your counter, or dark grey or black to contrast.

We can't afford to do a marble floor, and we would have to do a porcelain marble. I was advised that you have to be careful putting real with fake because of the veins not matching.

If you're not afraid of a darker grey, you could go with a slate tile floor and a light grey wall color.

I originally liked the idea of slate tile and grey walls, i just wanted to make sure my head was going the right direction! New home owner & first time reno's!

Quality wall tiles that match your look of your bathroom don’t have to cost a lot.
You can do it yourself with mesh mounted or adhesive tile squares.

If you like slate tiles, look for brushed slate, it is very smooth under foot and doesn't have the ridges and sharp edges that some slate has.
