I've sewn quite a bit and, in fact, I teach sewing at the middle school and high school level. I've never attempted drapes before, but they seem less fussy than apparel. Guess I'll find out. So the fabric...I'm almost embarrassed to admit I shamelessly stole it from another post. I was looking up plaid curtains and came across a fairly recent GW post where someone suggested this fabric. I immediately liked it and started considering it for curtains. When I realized how inexpensive it was ($2.24 a yard!) I just went ahead and bought all they had in stock, something like 28 yards. I hope I like it! It should fit with the English country, creams and off white look I'm going for. It's 100% cotton, described as a durable drapery fabric. Still deciding on how many panels and what sort of heading.

If you were thinking about cutting one in half in order to have 1 1/2, it won't work. You need even number of grommets so the edge doesn't stick out. So you'll need 4 a window if you're doing grommets plus grommets are kind of skimpy as it is.

What's the clearance around the door? Typically your curtain width should be twice the size of the width you need to cover. If the panels are too narrow then the curtains can look skimpy and unfinished. If you have clearance and hang your rod wide then the curtains can be pushed away from the opening.

I suggest for windows 3+4 to have 3 panels: a wide panel on each side of the windows and one narrower panel at the center between the windows. Then each window can open at the center on the days you’d like just a little sunshine peeking through. The windows by the bed can have modern flat shades in a fabric that coordinates with the curtain panels, a more modern vibe then having all curtain panels in the room. The nightstands look a little mid century modern so I’m thinking you lean towards a modern vibe.
