How many curtain panels should I get?

Nathan Cho
last year

I'm planning to install beige blackout curtains for the master bedroom, and would like advice on number of panels.
Rod measurements:
1: 44"
2: 44"
3+4 combined: 138"
Rod to floor height will be 93" for all.
For 1 & 2, I plan to just get single panels that open away from the bed, given the small widths.
For 3 & 4, I was initially going to just get 1 wide panels each (so 70 * 2) that open left and right. (Let's call this option A)
But now I'm wondering if I should break it up into 4 panels total, with #3 getting left & right panels, and #4 getting 2 panels as well. (Option B)
Would option B look better aesthetically given the width?
Practically speaking, I'm thinking option A is better for 2 reasons:
1. it's cheaper to get 2 panels than 4, even for same total coverage.
2. I'm thinking about getting automated curtain closing & opening devices, and I would have to get double the # of devices to operate.
But curious if option B is better aesthetically.
Thanks!
