OK, I think I have it figured out. I thought when I pasted, I would see the image, not a string of words and symbols! I can't tell you how many times I copied and pasted and deleted, and it was there all along. So, here are some plans I came up with. I don't know (do you even know yet?) what kind of tub you want, other than 6', so plan C1 shows a rectangular one. It doesn't have to be, though. There is a pony wall at the end of the tub, with glass above. The fittings can be mounted on this wall (if the tub is rectangular), or deck-mounted at either end. There is a seat/bench on the shower side of the wall. You could have a towel bar/hook on the pony wall outside of the shower door. Plan C2 is almost the same, except the tub deck extends into the shower for the seat/bench, with a glass surround. For both of these plans I would put drawers in the bottom of the cabinet next to the shower, and a pull-out (or 2) on top, much like spice pull-outs in kitchens. You could also have open shelves (or shelves behind doors), but you wouldn't be able to reach the back of the shelves very easily. Plan C3 reverses the placement of the tub and shower. This is not as nice from a privacy standpoint, but has better access to towels after showering than does C2. Also, it depends what kind of climate you live in, if you would want the plumbing for the shower on an exterior wall. Even with insulation behind, I wouldn't do that where I live (it's way too cold and I've suffered through too many frozen pipes). You could have some type of shelving at the end of the tub, or just extend the deck platform. Plan C4 moves the doorway. I realize you said that you don't want to do that, but from your plans it looks like the centerline of the window is about 10-1/2' from the bottom wall. Even an 8' dresser could still be centered on the bed (which is centered on the windows), with the door moved. You would have 2 smaller closets, but actually with the same amount of room. If you don't want to close the window in the closet, you could build in a set of drawers under it, depending on how high the window is. The shower wall next to the vanity is glass, to maximize your interior dimension. In all cases, I would switch the bathroom door to swinging instead of a pocket door. You can then recess medicine cabinets (for plans 1,2,3) behind the sinks. It's also easier to open and shut swinging doors, and when you're in a hurry to make it to the bathroom, every second counts! I also think you don't need any door on the closet itself, or even on the doorway to the bedroom itself, at the beginning of the hallway. In all of the plans, the vanity is 60". Particularly for plans 1,2,3 that shouldn't feel too tight, since there are no walls at either end. I hope some of these ideas help you.

To some degree, it's personal preference, and sometimes, it just depends on how the house ends up. I can see benefits to both. I've never lived in a closet-first house, and I've lived in two bath-first houses. The production home I'm building now also has a bath-first arrangement. I like the idea of not needing to pass through the bathroom when I'm putting away laundry, but I also like the idea of a closer toilet (my husband gets up in the middle of the night). I am in the habit of gathering my clothing *prior* to showering, whereas my husband likes the closet adjacent to the shower so he can go get his clothes afterward. We also like the idea of connecting the closet to the laundry room, and then connecting the laundry to the kids' bathroom (via a door or a pass-through), which requires a [master bed --> master bath --> master closet --> laundry --> kids' hall bath] sequence. I also strongly prefer all bedrooms on the same wing/side of the house. Honestly, I could live happily either way... The houses I grew up in never had a master suite, so I feel lucky to have it. :-)

Actually... It's 91" wide. It's actually okay as long as you get true sink vanities, which are only 21" deep generally without the counter and about 22" with. Can't use kitchen cabinets though. I forgot about the difference. Duh. With 32" tub and shower, that leaves 37" clearance from her plans to the vanilty, which is fine. Down to a 24" clearance just in front of the toilet is to code and 27" is fine for just that area. My plan, with tub to left of door, allows for a nice 6' tub and a shower that is 55x36, which is more usable and way more luxurious than a tub and shower that are 32x60. You can deck mount a faucet at the end of the tub. Refining the plan, under the window would go an extra narrow (18") built in hamper/cabinet to give plenty of room for the shower and tub. The toilet would be against the LEFT wall, not the front wall. Then you could do a U shaped counter with 48" of cabinet front on the left wall and 66" on the back, plus fillers. Minimum clearance in whole bathroom would be 36" from hamper counter edge to bath tub and slightly more from toilet rim to tub filler pony wall. My plan gives a 3' tub entrance and shower entrance.

MrsPete, that's an interesting point about taxes. I wonder what the difference is, for an additional bathroom? I don't know how much more taxes would run, but I'm sure it's different across the nation -- and it's subject to change. Maybe the OP's space could be configured as one bath plus a half-bath (toilet and sink)? Or a bathing area ... connected to a half bath. I am 75. I know NO ONE my age who still shares a bathroom with her husband. And they haven't for years. All the husbands have been kicked out to a 2nd bath in the house, down the hall. I'm only 52, but I don't know any married couple who does this. No one my own age. Not my grandparents, whom I lived with during my college years /while they were roughly your current age. Not my parents who are currently your current age. If one can afford a house that price, one can afford the taxes (how much could it possibly raise ones taxes to have one more bath?) and help to clean them. I don't think it's about being able to afford; rather, it's about using your resources wisely. Having more doesn't mean it's right to waste. But adding a second toilet to a master bathroom that already has two sinks, a shower and separate tub isn't going to result in it being assessed as an additional bathroom, and it isn't going to substantially, if at all, raise the property taxes. That makes sense from a tax perspective, but it still leaves you with an extra toilet that needs cleaning each week, is subject to breakdowns, and is only going to be used for minutes each day. I maintain it's a poor use of resources. Absolutely true. But resale is resale. And just because you think something is a bad idea, doesn't mean that everyone does. I am convinced that the majority of homeowners look at price and finishings rather than function -- but you're right: that's resale.
