White Door/Window with Stained Trim
Comments (4)The only negative affect of going all white except for the outside trim, is that the combination will highlight the fact that your trim is the bare minimum. Personally I don't think this is a big deal. I don't think anyone is going to walk in your house and be struck by the fact that you have thin trim. Surely there will be nicer things in the room to draw attention away from the trim....See MoreWood stained front door, white trim, rainwashed exterior - add accent?
Comments (11)I agree with the Halcyon! It flows with the main house color, but highlights the cedar shake just enough. About the Rainwashed vs Sea Salt- can you get samples painted on the house to compare and see exactly how they look throughout the day? In general it's always best if you can see a paint color on the wall you're planning on using it on, colors look different on a screen vs on a wall with light and shadows, etc....See MoreNew floors, doors and trim: engineered hardwood? white or wood doors?
Comments (6)IMO real wood and fake wood are never good together so i would just do the same floor as the FR everywhere. The doors if solid fir are probably better than any cheap door you will find so why not just refinish and paint them it will add to the character of the home.As for wood or paint that I would need to see your space to comment. This is a 1905 house where we replaced all the crown that had been removed and I apinted all the wood work white we removed and sold almost all the original fir doors but kept the bathroom one and just stripped and painted it too . The front and back doors had been replaced before we bought. BTW all the floors were different so we did good quality Greman laminate all over....See MoreStained pine six panel doors with chunky white trim?
Comments (2)I like the trim that you have, too. And see a couple of problems with stepping up the width of the trim. In the first photo, you don't have enough wall space right side of the door for much wider trim. Maybe 3/4-1" of wall space there. In the second photo, it looks like the current trim is almost touching the fireplace mantle on the left. I would love to replace trim in my house but I have too many doors close to walls like in your first picture. I know that unbalanced wider trim would bother me a lot more than the narrow trim (that fits) bothers me. One wide leg with a narrow leg on the other side--just no. My sense on scale wouldn't be able to tolerate it. What I would wholeheartedly embrace changing is the spidey web arched transom over the French doors. Although I really like it, it is just all wrong in Colorado rustic. And wrong for nudging towards a more Craftsman look. Should I change the hinges and knobs of the doors? Your call. Changing hinges on existing doors can end up opening a can of worms. And the only time that I notice hinges is when some lazy slob has painted over them. Oh, and I notice knobs on entry doors so I would pick something I really liked for there. Otherwise, if they all match inside the house, they're just tools AFAIC....See MoreAmy Vogel
