White Door/Window with Stained Trim

I am in need of some help. The west wall of our house has our big picture window and to the left of it is our french doors. We have stained trim and wood window/door. We are getting ready to replace the window and door and will leave the stained trim that we just redid (currently redoing all of our trim/baseboards). Anyway, finding a vinyl window with wood color is hard to match to our current trim so I think we are going to go with a white window with our stained trim. Will this look ok? Also the french door is right next to the window (6ft away). Should we do a white door with the stained trim? Any advice is appreciated!

I probably don't understand having never replaced a window but...............
there are such things as getting vinyl on the outside and the inside is wood instead of vinyl...
it can be done unfinished then use whatever stain you are using on the rest of your trim..

Am I making any sense ?

Yes, painted woodwork looks just fine next to stained woodwork. I have it that way in my beautiful home.

Well, we have something like you describe, though our window trim is painted to match the baseboard. The doors on the first floor are stained wood, while the doors on the 2nd floor are painted. The windows and stained doors are Douglas fir and the wood on the windows was so lovely that we couldn't bear to paint it. Of course, then we had to paint the baseboards and trim as we did not want to mix woods here and Doug fir for all the trim would have been prohibitively expensive. Floors are red oak. I would leave the windows and trim. You might consider painting the walls to a more neutral warm white.

I agree with the Halcyon! It flows with the main house color, but highlights the cedar shake just enough. About the Rainwashed vs Sea Salt- can you get samples painted on the house to compare and see exactly how they look throughout the day? In general it's always best if you can see a paint color on the wall you're planning on using it on, colors look different on a screen vs on a wall with light and shadows, etc.

You're on the right track! While it is tough to determine without photos, a high-contrast palette is typically an effective design approach. Best of luck with your project!

Forboystoo....Yes that is what we have now and I just don't like taking care of the wood on the inside. Vinyl to me is so much easier to keep clean. Thanks though, you do know what you are talking about :)

The only negative affect of going all white except for the outside trim, is that the combination will highlight the fact that your trim is the bare minimum.
Personally I don't think this is a big deal. I don't think anyone is going to walk in your house and be struck by the fact that you have thin trim. Surely there will be nicer things in the room to draw attention away from the trim.
