First Fall Orders Arriving
Comments (122)"Believe me, I have planned trips to pass by certain stores that I have wanted to visit in the past. I think however with Donahues I will settle for ordering the quart sized plants and growing them out myself." Hey, Miguel, a visit to MN in the early summer/mid summer is great, warm temps during the days, cooling off in the evenings. After living in St. Louis for 8 years I moved back to MN and was frequently heard to say "What a beautiful evening" that first year back. We also have a wonderful arboretum here. So, come on up! I miss the early springs of St. Louis as it doesn't really get springy and beautiful in MN until May. But, oh, those cool summer nights almost make up for the late spring. I visted Donahues last April during their spring open house and bought several gallon pots of clematis. Have also ordered from them via mail with good results. Comments (10)Sorry, Ken & Paul, I'm still living in the dark ages. No DC! Both kids have them, 2 different brands and each believe theirs is superior. One day, I suppose that I will have to convert, as it's already difficult to find 35 mm slide film. There's a downside to living in a warmer Zone, many Hostas and other frost tender perennials are already up and sporting new foliage, but we could have freezing temps at night, well into April. Our last frost date is about April 15, most years. Another disadvantage, recent warm temperatures have produced mosquito larvae and a few adults are already taking aim! Comments (39)My order just came in yesterday. Two huge boxes from ARE. My hubby didn't say a thing! LOL. The way I see it is that 1. I work, so I can buy whatever I want. and 2. I never say anything about his ever expanding Batman collection. LOL. Anyway, I can't wait to unbox everything. So exciting! This is my first order from ARE. It's cold here and we are expecting snow on Sunday. Major bummer. For now, I'll just water the plants and leave them in our small greenhouse (on the floor, away from direct sun). I also have my 3 roses from Palatine. Those will get potted and also, placed on the floor for now, away from the sun. Once everything leafs out, they will get placed on the benches in sun....See MoreDL Order From PA Just Arrived
Comments (4)Oh dear. The northern people are catching up to we more southern people and I for one am not caught up at all yet. They are calling for more freezing weather this week-end, but not down in the mid 20's (I hope). I just finished taking all my smaller pots from the garage to outside yesterday - AGAIN! My DH is giving me the evil eye about helping me move them back in one more time..........Yes, I like Velvet Shadows. Was one of my first when I was a newbie and lived for many many years. I had it in part shade out of ignorance, but as it turned out, it's on the list of those daylilies that are shade tolerant. Will love seeing pictures of it this year.......Maryl...See Moreavedon_gw
