Area Rug Help - First time designer
Comments (6)"Congratulations on your first apartment! I like the clean lines of your sofa. The pillow picture comes up as error - are they the ones in the picture?" -Thank you! Its the same one as the photobucket links I posted. "All of your rugs are basically black or black/gray. I think you should look for a rug with some color, or else the entire room will be black and gray (for the most part) and whatever accessories you have in the room." -This is what I was trying to avoid. I would love to bring some more color into the room. Just am unsure what would help do that. I was under the impression I should pick a rug that matches, but do want to stay away from over blending everything to avoid a room full of black/gray. "Would you consider a modern rug with a little black/gray but red, blue, green, yellow, multicolor, teal, orange - what other colors would you consider? Almost any color(s) would go." -I'm very open to modern rugs, just not sure as to what I should pick. I don't want something that will stand out as an eye sore. Would like it to have some pop and look good but not a first impression of "what was he thinking when he picked that :/ ". "Do you have any artwork selected or already owned? Can pulls colors from it." -None yet. Figured I would start looking for artwork/wall decor when I got the basics all picked out. So basically its like a blank canvas minus the sofa and coffee table....See MoreI need help making this sofa work for my daughter's first apartment
Comments (57)My daughter and I were out today and bought the original print fabric to make one large pillow for the sofa. She also picked out a solid color fabric in the darker green that's in the print for another slightly smaller pillow. I liked a stripe that coordinated well, but she says she wants to keep things simple. She has also decided to use the rug from IKEA. Haven't purchased it yet, tho. End tables, coffee table and lamps will be the next choices to make....See MoreApartment living room help- design around grey couch
Comments (12)Thank you so much for all these ideas. I have eclectic taste but like contemporary, midcentury modern, global, a mix of these or other styles. For the space the astro console looks super cute. Here are some random things i've been collecting in carts that I like: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N79WZFS/ref=ox_sc_act_title_3?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1 (I like rust color- don't know how to coordinate with grey etc.... but can swing to blue, red , green, darker grey, etc.) https://www.westelm.com/products/phoebe-chair-s2643/?pkey=e%7Cphoebe%2Bchair%7C3%7Cbest%7C0%7C1%7C24%7C%7C3&cm_src=PRODUCTSEARCH (red could be nice too-just don't know how to tie in coordinating colors in the room) This coffee table looks neat but then what kind of console to get and is white the better color to design around or is taupe, dark brown better: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00QUE7NFK/ref=ox_sc_act_title_12?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1 Here it is in cement color: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01NBF5JHF/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_16?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A3SQ9YFE6CSCS0 I was hoping to decorate wall or nick naks with mediative/mind-body items like a painting of buddha or lotus and or horse painting. https://www.houzz.com/products/marmont-hill-fire-horse-by-irena-orlov-painting-on-wrapped-canvas-24x16-prvw-vr~84354093 https://www.icanvas.com/canvas-print/sitting-buddha-val346#1PC3-40x26 https://www.amazon.com/Sea-Charm-Peaceful-Decoration-Artwork/dp/B01MYGO95D/ref=sr_1_11?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1507078846&sr=1-11&keywords=lotus+print Thanks so much for the ideas! Comments (7)If the room is small, be sure you only use pillows on the bed that you actually use when sleeping. Otherwise, you will be jumping over them if you get up to go to the bathroom! And forget all the throws and other stuff - more stuff to take off the bed at night and put back on in the morning. You will be making your bed everyday, right? Keep it simple and that might actually happen!...See MoreHannah K
