to grout or not to grout floor
Comments (4)I have some samples of the duraceramic tiles at home and they don't look anything like vinyl. They look exactly like ceramic tiles but not as expensive, although not cheap. In the store they had areas of their showroom tiled, some with grout and some without. I liked both but what I was wondering which way would it be easier to take care of? Would something be able to get into the connection points of the tiles if they were not grouted?? If they are grouted are they easy to keep clean? Also, I am assuming if I do have them grout NOT to get light colored grout?? I appreciate the help. Angie...See Moreunderlayment seams rising under new vinyl floor
Comments (1)Sometimes this happens in some homes in some climates...had it happen a few times. The solution that some installers have to the problem of plywood expansion that causes this phenomenon is to use only quality 5-ply birch underlayment, butt the seams net or just a "hair's width" open and then just touch sand the seams flat. Floor filler is only used to correct any divots, holes or other defects in the surface that would telegraph through to the face of the goods. I used to use floor filler at the seams of most of my installs and never a problem...most of the time, but then there were those jobs where this phenomenon of raised floor filler did happen....See MoreCan I place ceramic tile without space between them (no grout)?

It's only when grout fails, becoming stained, cracked, or falling out altogether, that people take notice. But grout deserves more respect. "Not only does grout fill the voids, it makes the floor, wall, or countertop stronger by bonding the tiles together and preventing the edges of a tile from chipping and cracking. Comments (9)It's your house so why do you need anonymous people on the internet to tell you it's okay. It's a significant down market look at this point - and always was. At least ever since the idea of sanitary indoor baths with tile floors and walls became accessible to the middle class. I had vinyl tiles in the bathroom I just remodeled - they can be slippery which is why grouted tile works well since the grout provides traction. The reason why tile counters have passed out of favor is because they are less functional than solid surfaces for a counter. So years ago the choice was formica or tile and tile was a higher end choice because it was more functional than formica....See MoreBeth H. :
