Help! Design Dilemma for long narrow living room

Muriel Jedlicka

We did a remodel several years ago giving us a long narrow great room. This is our living space including a TV. Furniture placement has always been a challenge.

We have decided to redecorate the space including new furniture and adding a gas fireplace to the room. We have 2 options for placement of the fireplace.

1. Install it at the far end of the room opposite end from the dining room replacing the window. This wall faces south and gets tons of light from multiple floor to ceiling windows.

2. Place it on the wall opposite of the kitchen basically dividing the room in half. There is a ceiling height change here where the addition was done.

Questions:

1. Where should we install the fireplace?

2. Where should the TV go?

3. What furniture purchases and layout would you suggest?

I'm excited to get this project off the ground just overwhelmed by the options. Your thoughts and opinions would be greatly appreciated.
