Looking for a defensive/security plant
Comments (14)There are lots of tough, hardy, and beautiful roses that thrive in your area. Another route would be agave, not only do they have nasty thorns if you get the juice on your skin it'll make you break out in hives. I also second the suggestion of using rocks, I love the look of stone in the landscape and it might help protect your thorny plants until they get big and nasty. Good luck with your project, I hope you can discourage your neighbor and create a beautiful garden at the same time!...See MoreBuilding a new home.. Accomodate neighbors parking issue??
Comments (35)Robin -- you might be surprised about the perception of privacy. We recently moved from a city duplex with 10 feet between us and the next duplex. However, we had a 6 ft privacy fence on 2 sides of the back yard and a 6 foot stone wall between us and our wall neighbors. The house was also built with the proximity in mind and our windows were mostly transoms up high on the sides. We never saw and rarely heard our neighbors on either side or behind us (an alley) unless we wanted to. Now, we are looking in another town. It isn't a city and lots are quite a bit bigger. However, in most places fences are not allowed. In some places, 5 back yards are all facing each other in relative proximity - as in, I and your other 3 neighbors could probably tell what paper you were reading and whether you drink orange juice or milk at breakfast. In addition, dogs running and driving each other crazy with the invisible fenced back yards....See MoreNeighbors parking their car in driveway of house for sale?
Comments (13)1) Would you get mad if your house was for sale and people in the neighborhood parked their car in your driveway? I would not get mad but I might ask/let the seller know. 2) There are some houses for sale on my street and no one lives in them. But there is always the same car parked in the driveway. What? The same car at all of the houses, or each house has a different car?? Is there a parking issue in your n'hood??? 3) When i brought my house 5 years ago, a guy across the street had his truck in my driveway. I closed on a friday and when i went to move in saturday morning i had to park behind his truck. Then he came and introduced himself and asked me to move my car so he could get his truck. This one has me on the fence. I might or might not have moved my car to accommodate him, depends on so many things. 4) Any opinions on this? No opinion really, just scratching my head over it. LOL Where is this????...See MoreTry a little tenderness ...
Comments (26)I love these stories! A couple of days ago I walked a few blocks away to check out an apartment building that has a listing that I'm interested in. I didn't have an appt. to view the unit, just wanted to get a feel for the block. I stopped a gentleman who looked like he was about to enter the building but he was not, I explained that I was wondering how the building is. Is it heated well, etc. (You never know in NYC how some buildings are managed.) He told me that his friend lives in the building, "Let me call him up". I told him no, you're too kind, you don't have to do that, but he insisted. Turns out he didn't have his friend's number after all but assured me that he had been in the building, it's very nice and he can run in to see if his friend is home. Of course I thanked him and refused buy what a nice guy. From there I went to the hardware store to see if they had seed packages for sale yet. I wanted to get thyme and chive seeds for my windowsill. The guy behind the counter told me that they haven't gotten them yet, they'll be in in a month. But he has last year's seeds, (which should still germinate) and I can take all of them for free. LOL I don't really have much use for most of the seeds as I live in an apartment but I didn't want to stand there picking through all the seed packages, there were probably 100 envelopes packed tightly into a box. He said You come in often, and we appreciate it. I'm sending most of the seeds to friends who live outside of the city and have gardens. So it was a really nice day. There are so many kind people out there, sometimes it's kind of shocking! I can't remember the last time I encountered anyone who was rude to me. Recently someone hung tote bags on a fence for anyone to take, "Being Nice is Free" was printed on them. My neighbors are all very friendly which just makes life so much better. (Except for the stomper who lives above me but I try not to get too annoyed!). I think when I was younger I could get snippy with people sometimes but I believe I've mellowed and really enjoy interacting with most people I meet....See MoreCrystal
