Building a new home.. Accomodate neighbors parking issue??
Comments (35)Robin -- you might be surprised about the perception of privacy. We recently moved from a city duplex with 10 feet between us and the next duplex. However, we had a 6 ft privacy fence on 2 sides of the back yard and a 6 foot stone wall between us and our wall neighbors. The house was also built with the proximity in mind and our windows were mostly transoms up high on the sides. We never saw and rarely heard our neighbors on either side or behind us (an alley) unless we wanted to. Now, we are looking in another town. It isn't a city and lots are quite a bit bigger. However, in most places fences are not allowed. In some places, 5 back yards are all facing each other in relative proximity - as in, I and your other 3 neighbors could probably tell what paper you were reading and whether you drink orange juice or milk at breakfast. Comments (41)"XP has bowed out of doing anything about it, although she recognizes that it's a problem, because she is still good friends with Nosy's husbabd and doesn't want to cause tension." It seems that XP is being let off the hook a little too easily. Does XP care if the house sells? Since she is a co-owner and is on good terms with the husband (and still lives in the area), it only seems fair that she be involved in helping to solve this problem. Why should you take all the heat? Nosey's husband needs to be made aware of what his wife is doing. I'd ask XP to talk to the husband and realtor and let them know that if Nosey doesn't stop interfering, you will set up a motion activated camera that takes a pic of everyone who comes into the yard, and get a restraining order against her. I'd hand out flyers to the other neighbors. Offer them a commission if they can steer a buyer your way. I'll bet they aren't crazy about Nosey either. See if any of them would be willing let your realtor know when they see Nosey trespassing or bothering any other potential buyers. Comments (10)A house was for sale five houses away from my former residence at the same time my house was (both single family homes). We were priced $10K higher - they were at $80K, we were at $90K - on a street that was selling for $100 - $110K. My house was a divorce case and I wanted it gone asap hence the fire sale price. DOM on that street was under 30. They listed two weeks before us. We were under contract the week we went up, they sold months after we did. The differences? I practiced what I preach. The house was clean, clean, clean. It was empty, the first floor was repainted and I refinished the hardwood before selling. My former husband ripped out the basement rug and painted the basement floor. The other place had been a rental. The owner lived next door so it was a well kept rental, however it looked tired. Nothing was painted, the floors had rugs (hardwood underneath) and the stockade fence had a portion leaning. My furnace was 50+ years old and we had a dilapidated single car garage. The house down the street had a newer furnace and a beautiful two car garage. I honestly never understood why he didn't repaint, rip out the rugs and fix the fence. He owns(ed?) a construction company, so his cost would have been labor. He listed very, very low and sold for even less....See Moreneighbor parking
Comments (33)Crystal, mentioning that you have children, I think you can use that as reasoning that they need to move the vehicle off your property now and find a place on their own property to store it Then put up a fence, ASAP. Your kids should not have access to or be playing around a vehicle that isn't yours, not to mention if one of your tree falls on their truck...guess who pays? Give one more neighborly effort as mentioned above, then if they don't accommodate, take matters to a lawyer and see about having it towed off your property. We had a 'diagonally down the street' neighbor at our last house who for some reason INSISTED on parking their crappy car directly in front of our house and sometimes even partially blocking our drive way, Instead of driving around the block to access their rear entry drive way. They were dicks about it. We tried being neighborly, then eventually started sending emails to our whole HOA chain to them "nicely' asking them to remove the car and stop parking it there to embarrass them into moving. that didn't work. Then when they partially blocked our drive, ended up calling the city to have it towed since we couldn't access our drive. hope this does not get that ugly for you....See Morechibimimi
