Two tone walls with honey oak trim? Help.

I'm moving into an old house with honey oak trim. I was originally planning to paint it all white but now I'm considering keeping it and modernizing the look with paint. But I'm stuck on what to do with the trim divider on the wall and the two tone situation. I'm thinking some sort of gray or griege or taupe on top and alabaster white on bottom but I have no idea if that will look any good. Would it be strange to paint the trim divider on the wall white but not the wood around the doors and windows? P.S. Anything I know about design has been researched online in the last 24 hours...total novice here and I have no natural eye for these things. Any help is very much appreciated. Thanks!
