In answer to a question--Cast Iron
Comments (8)I'm sure all of the above methods are the correct way or the way you were taught, as I do. I have my mom's 6" fry pan, her Dutch Oven and her 12" fry pan, that she used for over 50 years. She used them in her 2 restaurants and at home and I used them in my nightclub & later in my restaurant back in the late 60's thru the mid 80's. I'm still using them of course and my mom's method has always worked. After use, I wash in warm water with a little dish soap, rinse well and dry them. Using scraps of 100% cotton, (I save old T shirts).. I apply some Veg. oil on the cloth and in a circular motion..rub the oil into the grooves of the entire pan. I put it in my preheated oven at 250 degrees for 15 min., turn it off and let the pan remain in the oven. They have served me well all of these years....See MoreLooking for enamel cast iron 70/30 split sink for 30" cabinet
Comments (4)A 30" cabinet only fits a standard 25" single bowl sink. There are a few sinks that have come out recently that will work in a 30" cabinet, but they are all single bowl as well. The largest sink that you can have with a 30" cabinet is a 27" sink. You HAVE to leave room to attach the sink properly. Yes, some people crowd a too large sink in by cutting away the walls of the cabinet, and some of those don't even have problems with that. Some do, as their cabinets aren't robust enough to carve away their support and still handle a heavy sink full of heavy water for decades. And some people have damaged sinks and then find it's impossible to replace the sink if they've scooped the sides without either pulling the counter or completely destroying the sink base from the inside out and then reconstructing it. You don't have room for what you want. Settle for what's available. It will actually work better than what you want....See MoreWall panel alternative to cast iron hot water radiators?
Comments (3)Runtal USA is pretty local to me so they get used quite a bit around here as an alternative to ordinary baseboard - in my previous house the plumber (plumbers mostly do the hot-water-based heating here, HVAC people are for forced hot air and AC) tried to talk me into a Runtal radiator/towel warmer for the bathroom. They just didn't have a style I liked. Buderus and Myson are also well known in the industry for good quality products; I've never heard of Veha and after getting into deep doodie with using a relatively unknown, bargain priced brand (Hudson-Reed) for the radiator/towel warmer in previous house's bathroom I'd personally stick with the big names. The bloody thing leaked nonstop and I canceled out the savings over a similar Myson by having the plumber back to tinker with it half a dozen times!...See MoreDo I have room for a 36" cast iron shower pan?
Comments (0)My bathroom is 5' x 10'. We will be replacing the 5' acrylic shower surround with a Kohler cast iron shower pan and tiled walls. The measurement from the back wall sheetrock to the edge of the shower surround is 34". I'm trying to fit in the 36" Salient pan, which attaches to the studs, but the toilet creates a problem. The toilet center is 17" from the shower curb. Toilet center to vanity is 18", giving me a 35" toilet space. With the 36" pan, the toilet center would be 15" from the curb so it would not be centered in the toilet space. I am looking at the Kohler San Souci compact elongated toilet, which has a width of 16 1/2" at the tank, 3" narrower than our current toilet, to make the toilet feel roomier if I lose 2" to the shower pan. I also want to use a stationary glass shower panel alongside the toilet and a hinged door. The alternative is to use the Kohler 34" Bellwether pan, which is the perfect size, but I don't like it as much as the Salient....See More- 8 years agolast modified: 8 years ago
