What way should cabinet doors swing open?

In our kitchen, the cabinet doors swing open all the same way. If you have two doors together, should the left one open to the left and the right one open to the right. All of ours open to the left. This seems odd to me. Maybe just me, but while we are remodeling, now is the time to change things up. Thanks for your input.

I would say it depends on use and configuration. In the following pic, the double cabinets look good with doors opening to the outside, and the single cabinet on the end opens conveniently to the right. Sorry for such a blurry image.

In the next pic, the door between the sink and range opens to the left, convenient if there are items for cooking stored in it--spices, oils, etc.--but not so convenient for dishes, if that's a clean-up sink.

In the following pic, the cabinet on the far right opens to the left, which seems inconvenient to me, because all the work areas seem to be to the left. The contents of the cabinet should be more easily accessed from the left side, but it depends on what is stored there, which we don't know. Maybe that's a baking counter, and baking staples are kept in the cabinet.

If your base cabinets also have doors, this is a perfect time to upgrade to all drawer bases. GW discussions--all drawer bases

My doubles open in opposite directions in order to give me a full range to put dishes in/out. All my others that are single, open in the direction that gives the easiest access and does not block something.

how much room is between the cabinet & the wall? i have one with a mirror inside as well, and i decided to mount it so it opens towards the wall, because i have enough space to open it fully without banging into the wall. that way i can use the mirror. if i hadn't had that room, i was planning to hang it the other way. if you don't plan to use the interior mirror, i guess it depends on what it may get in the way of & what feels more natural as far as reach, etc.

Ok, hmm. Davidro - here is the "whole area". The commode room door swing is reversed to open out from where it is drawn though. Terriks, to lean in and turn on the shower, one would have to have the door way open past 90 degrees if we did option 2. Whereas option 1, you would only have to open it a hair to reach in. dekeoboe - our controls and shower heads are already placed. things to think about for next time...sigh... How important is it that you turn on the water before getting in? I've always done that, but then again I've only ever had a tub/shower combo unit. Maybe this shower is big enough to turn it on without getting a face full of cold water.

It would be nice to be able to turn the shower on from the outside easily, which usually means the hinges are opposite the controls.

I think it depends on if you are left handed or right handed....Do you reach with your left hand to open your doors? Then leave it as it is. If you reach with your right hand to open your doors, then it should be changed. I speak from experience...my husband is left handed and when he built our cabinets in the garage, they are awkward for me but just right for him.
