A silly question about aphids
Comments (3)......Piccalilli Pie: So How Much Does an Aphid Weigh, Anyway? - According to an article published in New Scientist on August 9, 1979, one aphid, over the course of its life, weighs about 0.2 milligrams. New Scientist was, perhaps still is, first a news magazine, science just happens to be its main subject. And, what does '' over the course of its life,'' supposedly mean....See MoreSilly Question: Can a tree cutting be rooting without leaves?

Comments (28)WRT to logos as status symbols, I am in a pretty odd situation, hence the reason for my query. Where my children went to school, there was no such thing as a consumer goods status symbol because every child knew every adult's business since they were ridiculously young. In Silicon Valley so much information about who is who and who earns what is public, there are no big secrets where financial worth are concerned. Plus you knew who had never set foot on a commercial airplane by the time you were in middle school, for example- and this applies to public and private school likewise. If perchance I go silent on this thread again, not even thanking people for their comments, it's because I am having Houzz interface problem. I can comment on some threads, and not others. The little box shows up without the "Submit" button. And on those threads, I can't like or thank people. This has happened before and it clears up- eventually. I am traveling and am on an ancient MacBook, so maybe that is why....See MoreA silly question about germinating verbena and others in darkness
Comments (6)Of course you can check! But don't be tempted to peek before twenty or more days. If you are using a heat mat to provide bottom heat, the seeds will germinate much more quickly. Verbena seeds can take forever to germinate, weeks and weeks. I've actually never seen a black plastic recommendation before. Usually, a covering of fluffy germination mix is all that is required for seeds that require darkness and that's all I've ever done as a professional or a retired hobbyist. I'd think that covering with black plastic would encourage mold and mildew and set the seedlings up for rampant damping off diseases after germination. Anyway, I'm not going to confuse you by telling you how I would do it, but just ease your mind about checking for germination. Be very careful that the medium is not overly moist when you cover it or your project will not be successful....See More- 6 years ago
