Not sure where you wan to start. IMO windows with no grids would be my choice , a new door that suits the house . I like evergreens for good foundation plantings mixed with other perennials for color . Roses need room to grow and are best left in spaces whrer they are not mixed with other plantings. You need a walkway from the street to the front door with plantings along it. Those pieces under the windows were just something that seemed like a good idea at the time and IMO best left painted to blend with the brick.

I have zero real qualifications for commenting but this is fun! We're in a 1972 ranch, very long and flat looking. If a false gable front porch over the door is in the budget it would protect your door from weather and help the whole aesthetic of the front of the house. You'd have to add some additional roofing over the existing. That and lots and lots of plants. I love the idea above of plants along the sidewalk.

The panels under the windows were used so as to avoid the extra cost of having a brick mason build the proper sill & slope. If you replace the windows the panels will allow you to change the size. New panels should be plain (no molding) and painted to match the brick.

For gardening and makeover inspiration, I highly recommend the series Big Dreams, Small Spaces on Netflix. It's from England, and may give you ideas on going with a cottage garden theme, or take you in another direction.

Roof looks great with your brick! I'd follow suit with the windows and get windows with no grids that have bronze frames. (picture below just for frame color reference).

For your door I think you could save your door if you're able to replace the ornamental glass insert with a simple one and paint it a bold color that compliments your brick. Otherwise a new mildly contemporary door with cutouts. Definitely remove the teal planters as their tone does not go with your brick.

Some simple landscaping with perennials and shrubs underneath the windows would be very pretty. Where is the street in relation to the front of the house?

Update- today the contractor came and we will be replacing all the gutters and soffit. We decided to go with a color called clay. Sort of like a khaki color. He is also going to paint the wooden square at the bottom of the windows the clay color. We will be replacing the door- suggestions please.

A note on the panel: rather than the contrasting khaki colour, choose one of the midtone colours of your brick to colour match. Painting it lighter and an accent colour will make it stand out as a feature which you don't want, right?
