robert_laundry - It may be somewhat academic, but I thought the US 1900 series spun at a max of 1400 rpm. Are you sure about the 1600 rpm figure? At this level of spin your probably reaching a point of diminishing water extraction returns anyways. FWIW, I've calculated the g-force of the 48xx as about 600 and the 1900 (assuming 1400 rpm) at about 520. A larger radius drum spinning at the same speed does generate greater forces. If the 1900 series does do 1600 rpm, it will generate 680 g-force. No matter how you look at it the clothing is coming out with little water left behind no matter which of these machines you choose. Once crooks101 has his new machine it will be interesting to hear how well it works overall (if heater is used in all cycles and if the machine can reach top spin speed most of the time). Our old Asko could almost always balance the load and spin out at it's max (1500 rpm). Hopefully the big Miele can do this as well. Crooks101 - Once asked Miele what the W4840 weighed, and they said about 290 lbs. Still light compared with the commercial machines, but quite a bit heavier than similar sized machines from all the other big FL domestic machine competitors (range from 192 lbs for the LG Steam washer to 245 lbs for Kenmore HEt5). The added heft must speak to their choice and thickness of materials and no doubt a very heavy outer drum/ballast. I know we are suppose to abide by the strict directions Miele provides, but has anyone lived life on the edge and loaded the W48xx beyond 3/4 full? If so, how did it do? It's hard to believe a W48xx could be loaded up any less than similar Whirlpool/Kenmore/Bosch/LG/etc. It is interesting that Miele doesn't officially list a weight fill level for this machine. It's hard to know if Miele is doing this to play the large capacity game like their competitors, or if they really don't want you to compare their different product lines. Even if the W48xx capacity is only 8 kg, it's still a 33% increase over the 1900 series. For us that would mean about 3 to 4 fewer loads per week

My mom bought a Miele washer and dryer years ago and they were really good quality machines. Both the washing machine and dryer are almost silent. However, my dad was more hesitant because of the same reason others have mentioned - he heard repair costs are more because you have to go with their technician, and ordering parts isn't like running down to home depot to grab what you need. However, my mom talked him into it and it turned out they've never needed a repair. A couple of years ago they bought a new set for their home and moved the old set to their business. They went with Miele again, and my mom loves them. The new set is also very quiet, and I haven't ever noticed any bouncing or movement, especially not compared to my own w/d, which are pretty good quality but still make noise and rattle the laundry baskets on the spin cycle. They also haven't ever needed to repair their dishwasher, although that's only a couple of years old. Yes, I can see your hesitance because it's a risk, but I have to tell you, after seeing the performance of my parents, if I were in your position it would be hard for me to pass up. I don't have any experience with electrolux to compare, I just know I would love to have a Miele. In fact, after visiting my parents and using their Miele vacuum I joked with my husband that when we have new carpet later this year, it would only be protecting our investment to buy one . . .

Hi my problem is choosing the correct compact washer. I'm trying to decide between purchasing an Asko 6424 washing machine versus a Miele 1623 because of their compact size and fit into the space for my washer - can't be more than 37.5 inches height, 29 3/4 inches width. The only issue is which one? I heard that the Asko comes with 220v which only works with the comparable Asko dryer - that if I only purchase the washer alone it won't work at all in Canada, where the voltage is only 120v or if you say it will work in Canada with its 220v, the other issue is it won't heat water to 100F without hook up to its mate dryer. Also, I was told by one retailer that Asko is recommended over Miele because Miele is hard to find parts for repair. I was also told that the Asko model is superior because it doesn't have a rubber seal inside the washer as opposed to Miele which does come with the standard rubber seal. I'm worried about the rubber seal inside the Miele causing this odour as I found that my current Bosch front loader has a rubber seal which does cause an odour when used. Last, capacity of the Miele is good coming in at 6K and I'm not sure what the capacity of the Asko is as it doesn't say what capacity on its website. The price for both washers come in at the same price $1699.00 but Miele is offering a 200 dollar discount this month which means the 5 year warranty will be free because that is the cost of a five year warranty or 200 dollars. So as far as price goes, I would find today a 200 dollar saving by purchasing the Miele over the Asko. But is this worth it if the Asko is a better machine? Any ideas which is the better washer. While it was difficult to find much in the way of in depth reviews that got into the details like actual temperatures, I did find a Q&A response from Electrolux Support on the Home Depot webpage for the EFLS210 where the company responded to a question like yours. The responding rep said: "The temperature of the cold water when it enters the washer will be whatever temperature you have your home set to. On an Energy Star cycle [warm setting?] it will be around 100°F, on the regular cycle [hot setting?] it will be around 120°F, and on a sanitize cycle it will be around 152°F." Because this seemed unclearly incomplete, I called the Electrolux customer support number to get a more detailed response. I happened to get a rep who actually was familiar with the model. I was deluged with detailed info. I was only able fully understand what I was told by looking at the "cycles and options" chart on page 15 of the "Operating Manual" that I had downloaded. I'd recommended checking out the manual if you haven't already downloaded the pdf. The rep started by telling me that an "Energy Star cycle" was the "normal" and/or "whites" cycles using the default temperature setting of "warm" with the default option of "eco friendly" engaged. That should produce a wash temperature of "around 100°F." When you switch off the "eco friendly option," the warm temperature should be mixed a little higher, around 104°F. (This assumes that the water arriving at the hot inlet is at or above 104°F. ) If you select the "hot" temperature option for these cycles without switching off the "eco friendly" option, it seems that the wash water does not get much hotter than the "warm" setting. (Dunno if that might also be true for your present LG WM4370, but maybe something to look into?) Anyway, when the "eco friendly" option is disengaged on the compact Electrolux, the rep said that the Automatic Temperature Control (ATC) is supposed to mix the intake water to produce 120°F wash water temperature --- provided your hot water line is delivering water to the washer at or above 120°F. (The rep gave the standard advice that "you might want to run the hot tap on a nearby laundry sink to be sure that some of the cooled standing water has been purged if your laundry is any distance from the water heater.") The Electrolux rep further explained that the washer's "steam" option is a recirculation pump that pairs with the on-board water heater to keep "hot" washes hotter for a longer time. When you choose the "heavy duty" cycle or the "normal with steam" cycles, and bump the temperature selection to "hot," and deselect the "eco friendly option" when using the "heavy duty" cycle (the "eco" is automatically deselected when you choose the "normal with steam" cycle), the washer should maintain a wash water temperature around 120° for most of the wash cycle before cooling down towards the end of the wash time. The subsequent rinses are with cold water. The rep was a little unsure of how the sanitize cycle worked except that the onboard water heater heats the wash water up to 152°F and that the cycle takes almost two hours to run. (From posts by owners in various places, it seems that the Sanitize cycle takes about 1 hr. and 52 min.) After ingesting that passle of info overload, I also stumbled into some discussions of the EFLS210 and its immediate predecessor model (EFLS20Q) here and at Automatic Washer.org. (AFAIK, the prior 20Q differs from the current 210 mainly in having a couple of fewer cycles.) For searching here and at AutomaticWasher, I found that a poster named Practigal seemed to have the most in-depth info. You might include that screenname in a search string when looking for discussion threads.
