Comments (18)Gracie- I'll have to look into dark wood seats. That's a good idea. I'm pretty sure dh will be against it (who knew they could have such strong opinions about things like this?) but if I get a furry brown lid cover I'm sure he'd be willing to agree to wood. I've been looking at faucets as well. I'm torn between a single lever (easier for kids to get warm water) and double lever (potentially easier for kids to reach since the levers are lower but they are also further away so maybe they aren't easier to reach.) decorpas- I have 3 girls under 6. One loves pink, one loves brown, and one hasn't declared a color yet. Luckily pink and brown work quite well together. I always think it'd be great to paint strips, but once I get one color down I'm no longer quite as motivated. I am planning to add some colors on the door, though. (Sorry about the double post- its a bit comical since it let me double post my previous message but it is rejecting this message since I've already posted.)...See MoreAdvice needed on GC vs. Builder for new home contruction
Comments (13)Thanks to everyone for your comments. Today my husband and I spoke with 2 types of builders: one big box + custom and one independent and very flexible with allowances with the offer to get us better pricing on things we found on our own. We then spoke with a local architect that finalizes our plans and bids the work out to contractors. He earns his commission on the sale price of the house. We found all of them through Houzz Professionals and received responses from each one right away. With our lot we are fortunate not to be in a flood zone and builders are accustomed to extra "strapping", but no big concern or discussion on that topic. Interesting comment on the Cost Plus contracts. My RA told me directly in a meeting that Builders make their margins on appliances and finishes..at the time I interpreted that as "you wouldn't want them not to make money on the build". The other builders and architect said that there indeed are independent builders that will build on the Island (Amelia is really a northern extension of Jacksonville and on the Southern border of Georgia-not at all remote or isolated). Conclusion: When faced with a series of inconsistent feedback I know the truth is somewhere in the middle. I rather enjoy reading between the lines and sorting through the motivations behind different opinions from different people. Not saying anyone is lying, but we are being very thoughtful, observant, asking questions and researching the hell out of this project to make sure it is mutually beneficial to all parties. Other comments are welcome!!...See Moreclose to finishing remodel need HELP- hardware and backsplash
Comments (22)I would continue the carrara w/the backsplash. don't do a plain white subway. you can get carrara in subways, chevrons, herringbone, whatever. https://www.thebuilderdepot.com/bianco.html tilebar Talon Encore Ceramics has some beautiful tiles. you really need to go to their site and check out the crackle glass they do. this is just one of theirs in a silver or do a pale blue or green ceramic tile like this. nice to have some color in the kitchen. mixed polished and brushed is fine. gray/green ceramic tile in this 2x12 size is also nice....See MoreWhite interior doors, need help with hardware finish. Comments (9)Mark - ha ha, I'm guessing you don't like a black/white home. Patricia, I don't have any photos as we just broke ground. I've been trying to find photos with the different looks. I was thinking the black hardware on white doors would look like a checkerboard, but I keep seeing it online. That's why I'm thinking polished nickel which is what we like and I think they are more of a timeless look, but want to hear/see from others. Thank you!...See MoreKathi Steele
