My 60’s plain, wood-sided ranch with hip roof, new neutral driftwood shingles, needs new paint color. Spectacular setting NW Michigan, small lake/wetland/creek/meadows/forest, wildlife. I like warm, earth colors. Considering dark chocolate/expresso brown, no contrast trim except white doors could be duck egg blue? Also love warm deep green-blue-greyed, and mossy olive. Windows vinyl clad white slimline, will not paint. Garage door can be painted. New main door beautiful natural fir. Old red deck to be replaced with small stoop/steps/stone pathway to patio. It has been suggested to look at Farrow & Ball pigeon equivalents and a deeper trim. Not visible from road, very rural.

I am no landscaping expert, but even something like this makes your entry more important. I'm sure that someone else will have some better ideas on how to improve this area and make it more welcoming. OK just saw the entrance image. Are we going for a contemporary home or an olde tyme cottage home?????? Have their been some changes to the original building?? The reason I ask is that I was getting ready to propose a contemporary garage door to go with your boulder stones. Which was do you want to go???

Yes, we will be re-doing the driveway, combo of new concrete around the garage entry and connecting over to walkway leading to front door, the driveway itself will be gravel, which will look more country and fit the surrounding better, there is a ton of driveway that winds around back of the house, that much asphalt will create quite a stark look. The paint is starting to chip in some spots so we need to paint anyway, had originally planned to do board and batten or something along those lines for ourselves, but now will just repaint. If we go white, would you keep all trim, garage doors, etc, white? Would the green door look okay with that, maybe I just paint the door as well while I'm at it? Also, totally agree the door doesn't go with the house, it was on my list to replace! Garage doors will be replaced (they're ancient and have never worked since we've moved in), I'm thinking of barn door style carriage to echo shop doors. Currently we have a weed lawn, and not much of one at that. Our lot is a freeway for wildlife that tromps through all day/night long, in particular the deer and turkey wreak havoc on plants as well as mulch (the turkey love to dig!). But some hardy landscaping, particularly close to the house/walkway in contained small areas (due to drought, as apple_pie_order so correctly pointed out) are in the plans as we get closer to listing.

I actually like the front door you have, much better than the door you picked. The existing one, fits the style of the house much better. All the doors you picked, while beautiful, lean more craftsman. Your house is not a craftsman style, it isnt mcm either, but, it leans more mcm than it it does craftsman. The garage doors dont appear to be just right either. The windows could have been longer, but, not quite as high, and no grids in them. Sorry, because, you did say, they were already ordered, and I dont know if its too late to change them out.
