80's house - Please help identify style(s)
Comments (26)I was thinking about iron - and my wife like the "chanel staircase" look, but I'm afraid it's too decorative for my taste, and also as kswl said, it might be out of style soon. I'd like something a little more timeless. Kswl, thanks for all of your comments - the only real marble is the floor of the entryway, everything else is painted on, thank god. Lazygardens, that was hilarious - and some great ideas. Do you happen to know of a nice example of the california beach house feel? It sounds intriguing. And suer0 - my wife says the first thing she wants me to do after closing is tear down the mirrors - and I couldn't agree more. Yikes! I will absolutely keep you all updated as I go - all of your comments so far have been extremely valuable. Our closing is on Feb 16th. Thanks!...See MoreNeed help updating exterior on 1955 Ranch home

Comments (33)I have a "garage forward" house, and perhaps what you don't like is the strong statement the stone makes but only halfway. So it's a pretty big contrast between the stone and the other side of the garage which makes a strong out of balance statement. I'd paint the house a color closer to the stone so there's much less contrast. Painted stone is like putting tinfoil on a turd, IMHO. You could also cover the stone with siding that matches the pillar or some other siding on the house. The problem with your house now is that the garage is looking way too prominent considering how pedestrian that part is, with the entrance receding into the background. That can be fixed with paint and landscaping. But if you have your heart set on a white house . . . I dunno, maybe cover the stone with stucco. I just think painted white stone is going to look cheap. Colorful front door will be a nice update too....See MoreHelp me update the exterior of this brown 80’s house
Comments (9)I sort of like the colors you already have. I would add a nice bright color to your door, and some nice bright outdoor furniture to your porch, and brand new landscaping. The steps are so wide, you can easily add colorful pots to them., too. Is that just a patch of blacktop in front, or is that part of a circle drive. If its just a patch remove it. If its part of your circle drive, then have it resurfaced. I cant see the front yard in the pictures, but, dont forget it, when you do landscaping....See MoreJennifer Randall
