Advice 36in gas range or cooktop/double wall ovens
Comments (12)Buying a suite of appliances from one brand is almost always a bad deal and no retailer can possible sell every brand available in the US. Induction is not amazingly superior to gas. Although induction is superior to typical sealed gas burners induction is not superior to commercial type open gas burners. There are pros and cons to each. KitchenAid induction is in fact inferior to American Range and Capital Culinarian range tops. Many induction cooktops produce a buzz noise and KA is in fact notorious for it. The younger you are the more likely you are to hear it and some people refer to KA induction as teenager repellant. LOL Both AR and CC have a higher high plus you can use the multiple power burners all day long. In the KA you can only use the single power hob for a time limited and it pulls electricity from other hobs so you can't use all induction hobs at maximum rated KW at the same time. Induction is in theory more even in heat distribution but in reality undetected. KA has a lower low but not really useable below what is provided by dedicated simmer or small pot burner in the CC and AR burners. When induction breaks it can't be used until replaced with specific part or assembly. Gas burners can only have two things that break; generic spark modules or igniters, and you don't need them because you can light with a match or lighter. Those commercial burners will give 50 years service life while the induction will be in the landfill with no longer made antique parts. No appliance company makes the best appliance in every category. KA's main competitor is GE Profile. Profile makes better ovens while KA ovens have a reputation for dying after self-clean cycle. KA makes the best American type dishwasher while GE dishwashers suck. Miele makes even better dishwashers. They clean better, have fewer problems and use less water and electricity. The one advantage of some KA dishwashers is they can dry plastics better. KA refrigerators have shown to be more reliable than GE but less reliable than Samung. It is better to buy the best appliance in each category and shop for best price than to buy a suite of some good, mediocre, and bad appliances. Comments (6)I currently have an electric coil cook top, double wall ovens and the MW on the counter. My new kitchen will have a Bosch 500 series 36" gas cook top and a 30" Whirlpool regular double wall oven. The MW will go in a nook above a counter. I love having wall ovens so I don't have to bend over. When I help in a kitchen with a regular stove if feels awkward use the oven. Also, I've had both of my hips replaced and I cook enough that that type of thing matters. I went low middle of the road with my appliances and am reusing some. After reading here about the temperamental nature and need for uber exhaust with the high end ranges, I didn't feel for my needs it was worth the extra money. I'm putting my money into cabinets and good mechanical / plumbing....See MoreDouble oven versus range plus extra oven
Comments (6)If you are designing your kitchen, I highly recommend this book. He has some very good ideas that are a little different. You may be able to get a better price on bookfinder. I made one wall of countertops 6” deeper, put the microwave by the fridge because we mostly reheat and followed the way he lays out a kitchen. The Complete Guide to Kitchen Design With Cooking in Mind https://www.amazon.com/dp/0932767095/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_c_api_i_ECH9EbDEKGTBB I think if you are the cook you should have the edge on how the kitchen is laid out. In buying separate components, you can pick “best” for each thing rather than buying certain burners and getting the oven that comes with it. If you do get a range check the capacity. A 36” and many 30” ranges should hold a full commercial sheet or 2 half sheets. Many don’t though. Look at the rack sizes. My 36” Wolf range does not. Have you considered a rangetop vs a cooktop? I would definitely consider a CSO as above. It allows you to control humidity in your oven. I don’t have one because I need two big ovens but people seem to like them. It would be really great if you bake bread to allow steaming at the beginning. Much of this depends on how/what you cook, how many you cook for and if you entertain....See More36" range with single 30" wall oven vs 36" rangetop 30" double oven
Comments (7)Not sure if I'm too late to the party here or if you are still deciding. When we renovated our house 12 years agoe we went with a 36" bluestar range with gas oven and a GE Monogram 30" electric wall oven with GE Advantium Microwave/speed cook/convection above it. I've been super happy with the decision. I cook all the time on the range top and mostly use the wall oven however love having the big gas oven, which fits 2 turkeys for Thanksgiving and roasts them beautifully. Unfortunately our GE Monogram just went kaput so I'm now shopping for a new 30" electric wall oven. Will most likely go with the GE Monogram again but wish I could find one that has knobs and looks a bit less slick. If you've already picked would love to know what you went with and if you are happy with the choices....See MoreRita / Bring Back Sophie 4 Real
