I think I may have gotten Brugmansia sap in my eye.. what to do?
Comments (14)Thanks to all who responded. Yes, my eye began slowly working it's way back to normal. After the first day, it had gone down to about half the size it was the night before, and was starting to show some response to light. By the second day, I was able to focus my eye again, and by the third, it seemed normal, if not still slightly sensitive to light. Those first 2 days I had to wear sunglasses even in the house because even the sunlight coming in the windows was painful. Definate lesson learned here, I think when working with these plants from now on, I will wear gardening gloves, as a precaution that I wont absently wipe or scratch my eyes, and be sure to wash thoughoughly upon coming back inside. Very scary indeed when you make a living as a freelance photographer and only have one good eye. (I was born with an abnormality of my left eye, looks perfectly normal but is basically just window dressing, can't do more than distinguish color and light with it) I couldn't imagine giving up our brugs, our yard is always vibrant with the colors of them, and on nights like last night, with literally thousands of open blooms, you realise why you do all that feeding and watering. We had a candlelight dinner and a movie on our lanai literally floating on clouds of the most wonderful perfume. Earlier in the evening just after dusk we were returning home with the windows open in the car and could literally smell our place before we arrived in front of the house. Appearantly the weather has just been on the perfect side for them this winter, as the trees are just bending under the weight of as many blossoms as they can possibly hold, with flushes coming one after the other. I haven't slowed my feeding scheduel yet, as it's been pretty much in the lower 80's still all the time, and have had to do quite a bit of pruning, both of side shoots and branches that are getting on the roof and in the gutters. So I should have plenty of cuttings if anybody wants them who didn't get some of the plants I had earlier, they went amazingley fast. Dave...See Morefinally, the dream i have been waiting for
Comments (8)i'm glad my dream can give hope to others who are waiting. i really do believe that our loved ones are simply waiting for the right time, for the time they know we can "handle" such a dream. only 6 months ago, i think i would have felt more sadness than joy because i miss him so much. with the beginning of a new year, i firmly believe that gary knew i was ready and that is why my dream happened. for some, it takes less time, for others, more. i can only wish you all the same feeling of peace and joy that i had that morning i woke and will always carry with me. God bless. :)...See MoreMy dream style - what do I call it? (See photo)
Comments (24)bodica and nan53 - I got really excited when you both mentioned Scandinavian. That's what I had in mind, too. I think it's the stenciled pattern around the window that does it. Anyway, I love what could be called Old World, Bavarian, Black Forest, Scandinavian folk art, etc... I want a really elaborate cuckoo clock for Christmas next year! I also like the descriptions of Colonial and Early American. I figure these are styles that won't be dated in 10 years. I'm in the middle of painting our old, dark paneling to a nice crisp white, and the above kitchen photo best illustrates the new look I want for the whole house. These are photos of my living room with one wall painted and another not. I know the baskets and African animals aren't exactly Old World or Early American - I'll deal with that later. I'll do the rest of the painting when I can. I'll be stenciling a vine and berry design around the top of the wall and a smaller, complimentary pattern around the windows and fireplace. I detest the textured spackle ceilings and want to replace them, but can't decide how. I'd like stained beadboard on the ceiling if it's not too busy with the grooved paneling (more about that idea elsewhere on Gardenweb...). I'll probably be replacing the curtains with solid white battenburg lace ones, and the rust-colored carpet with hardwood. You may notice that one window is plain and the other has what looks like a multi-paned window grille. It's masking tape. I put it there to decide whether I wanted the window grilles. I do. Oh, yeah, and I need to win the lottery too! :)...See MoreWhat do I do if I have overwatered my snake plant?
Comments (1)Your soil looks fine in that photo.......lots of perlite and can't really overwater it. When you water try not to wet the actual crown/leaves of the plant (just the soil/roots), and water on the morning of a bright day. These are both more applicable in winter. Your biggest problem growing that plant was lack of light. Unfortunately those etiolated/stretched leaves will not heal or turn normal. Assuming the crown is healthy, and growing conditions remain good, it will eventually produce another normal pup or two. Keep it under good growing conditions. You may just want to buy a new plant and grow in the better conditions you are providing now....See MorePatricia Colwell Consulting
