If you place something on one side of the window above the sofa, then it will look unbalanced with the other side blank.

May I suggest you move the small brown chair directly under the TV, and then center the sofa under the window.

I would invest in some lamps before looking for artwork.

I know this will sound odd, but maybe you could paint a bold stripe around the room. A horizontal stripe.

Since no one can see TV from that chair in the corner anyway, bring it out and angle it under the TV, facing the sofa, which can then be centered with the window. Remove the nightstand by the door and add a small coffee table in front of the sofa. For the future, sell the loveseat and chair, replacing with 2 small scale swivel chairs and a pair of stools under the TV, which you should lower to eye level when seated. If possible, pull the sofa away from the window so you can hang drapes. Match them to the color of the walls and hang them high and wide to visually enlarge the space. You won't need anything else on the sofa side of the room. I can't tell what is hanging above the loveseat, but in general, it should hang centered 5' above the floor or 5" above a piece of furniture. Those items are too high.

Oh yes, I meant on both sides sorry! I' not sure if the chair under the TV would work though, I don't want anyone hitting their heads on the glass shelf that sticks out. You didn't mention kids. Sometimes less is more. If you have to decorate around kids, then a soothing room with less decor and less to worry about will make you feel better when you're there. Wait until they're older to perfect your spaces. Walls in a small space can look fine with nothing on them. The focus here is TV anyway.

Get a cabinet for the TV when you just said I have too much furniture? My main purpose in my house is hosting groups of people, we constantly have people over so if I have to choose between more seating and a cabinet, seating wins, every time. The rattan chair was given to us for free, I don' like it but it adds seating so it stays. And finally, everyone chooses which battles they are going to fight with their kids, for me I would rather go through the trouble of hanging my stuff a little higher and avoid them making it fall and hurt them and focus on other lessons that are more important right now. Honestly, you'e comment was the most unhelpful I have ever received here but it makes me never want to ask for advise from here again. Interior design is different for everyone because every one has different priorities and needs and if you're going to give advice to someone of their design, make sure you are trying to serve them accordingly, and if you can't then just refrain from saying any comment at all because at that point you are only serving yourself

Your question was just about what to do on the walls behind your sofa, right? If you decide to add curtains, there may not be a lot of room left for anything else. If you don't add curtains (I don't care for them in my home, so I won't judge), then I would look for interesting and colorful art or framed posters. I would choose two the same size and center one on each wall. I have had good luck finding things we like on art.com (I put things in the shopping cart and the price usually goes down within a couple of days) and buying frames at Michael's or a thrift shop.

I agree with others that centering your couch on the window will help with balancing the room and give you space for lamps, if you want them. If you pull the rattan chair away from the TV when you have guests, you wouldn't need to worry about the distance from the shelf. I hope you have luck finding what you want!

HI -- I used to have a room like this but in the reverse when my kids were young . To make this room work you have to keep it as simple as possible . First you have to realize you have too much furniture in the room. This is what I did and should work for you also . Fill the main window wall with drape panels covering as much of the wall as possible top to bottom and side to side and having blinds just covering the windows . The drapes stay stationary . The TV should be on the right side ( entrance ) wall making it across from the sofa , with a cabinet under . Or if your not wanting to part with the love seat then leave it where it is . But I think it would be better if it was gone and you could have some stored folding chairs as extra seating for get togethers . Center the larger sofa on the wall and place a chair at each end according to the room you have making a U shaped seating area. . A small side table at the ends of the sofa and table lamps . Also having an area rug for the seating area will warm the look and feel of the room.

HI -- Also adding ... instead of a coffee table , have two small storage ottomans ( to hide some kids stuff ) that are easy to move around .
