Always Dirty: Concrete Floor Inherently Leeches Dirt?

Hi, I have a question about concrete floors. We have slab on grade, unsealed polished concrete floors.

I clean the floor regularly. I usually clean it with an environmentally friendly cleaner diluted with water and a damp mop. When I toss the water out, it doesn't look too "dirty" or brown because of the regular cleanings.

The brown does show up, however, when I get on all fours (I know) and clean the floor with a surface cleaner (just Mrs. Meyers, nothing crazy harsh). When I wipe the floor with a white paper towel, I see a TON of brown on the paper towel.

I don't understand how my floors get so dirty so quickly, given that I clean them regularly and don't wear shoes indoors (we have cats who use a walnut shell–based litter, though). This leads me to believe that a TON of dust is getting in somehow (I don't think so, but I do live right next to a very busy boulevard but never open the windows) OR the concrete is naturally shedding whatever makes it up because we never used a sealer.

Any ideas?!
