Hosta of the Year 2017? Your Choice...
Comments (20)I totally agree with you, Steve. The Benedict Award is the real deal. But I have to say, even the HOTY award has included a lot of good ones, marketing gimmick or not. There are a couple/few glaring exceptions to this LOL, but overall, not too bad. NOT to be compared to the Benedict accolades though, because if you get enough hostas ready for market (volume) of course you can knock that price down to within 15 bucks. Which is why (in my opinion) they, being the Hosta Growers Association (correct title?) have the winners of HOTY 2 to 3 years in advance. They gotta get that hosta machine going to meet the demand. I see the scheme from a mile away. Some great plants in the HOTY category, nonetheless. Could be worse, though. If the Supreme Leader of the Hosta Universe were Dave/Bragu, we'd have Lancifolia for HOTY. Isn't that why WWII was waged? So Lancifolia would never again raise it's lancy head for dictatorship of the hostas? (Just playin' Bragu) : ) Don B....See MoreMy Favorite Hosta Pics 2012-2017
Comments (7)Really nice Don! Sometimes I play a game with myself and say "if I could have one, which one would I choose?" Well, it's a toss up---Christmas Tree (beautiful large leaves and wonderful form or Lakeside Kaleidoscope (awesome variegation). I can't decide!!!!!!!!...See MoreHosta I 2017
Comments (54)nhl, I like seeing your budgie, Coby. She's so pretty, and I know they're very smart and sociable. I don't have inside birds so I like feeding and watching the outside ones. Karin, my brother had mice for pets and one was so smart she would tour the house and then went back to her cage. Our cat didn't bother her. Sorry to hear that kitty was hit by a car. You were trying to help her. I'm also feeding a stray that I think belonged to a neighbor that moved and left her cat behind. Who does that? I think someone threw rocks at her to get her to leave the house she thought was hers. It took her 13 months to allow me to pet her, and she really enjoys it, although she's still easily spooked. She's come inside several times but panics if I close the door, so I'm taking it slow and tell her to stay safe when she's outside. peren.all/ Laurie, how fun to have geese follow you around. I've come across baby skunks and they're really cute and a bit kitten like in their play. All the animals you've helped is just more proof of how kind hearted you are....See MoreHosta L 2017 NO Lakesides
Comments (39)Beth, Candy Dish can be a good looking hosta, I've seen some pretty ones here, but it does need more attention from whatever slug deterrence you choose to use. Plant it somewhere you know you'll remember it. I hope to do better with my CD next year. Pampered Peeps, yes those little spots are from frost damage. That's why I wanted to point that out when I posted the pic because it could look like something else. It's on the SW side of the house where the hostas come up first, so several in that area were affected this year. ...sick of winter, yes I am, too! We're getting more snow right now....See MoreBeth (5b - SE-Michigan)
