I need help accessorizing fireplace cabinets----pics---
Comments (11)Thank goodness for the home decorating forum. This site has been very helpful to me also. I have become much better at accessorizing over the years, because of looking at all sorts of books and magazines, and there are quite a few sites that will teach you the in's and out's of accessorizing (if you believe there's such a thing). What it does, it provides you with a basic understanding of tablescaping, or accessorizing. I feel it has helped me develop an eye for what works, and what doesn't. Just play with what you have until you feel good with what you've come up with. Sometimes you come up with something you like on the first try. Sometimes you have to just give up for the time being....See MorePlease help me with my fireplace! It's un-awesome.
Comments (20)I know many here do not like laminate. I had real wood in my kitchen, breakfast area and hall in the last house. I would never recommend real wood in a kitchen if you have dogs and kids. I worked my tail of keeping that floor nice, and it wasn't perfect when I left either. The new house came with laminate in the kitchen, hall and dining area. I have to tell you, I love it. it looks perfect and is easy to keep up. Also we have shower one piece inserts in the bathrooms and linoleum or whatever they use now-decent brand on the bathroom floors. I love these floors. A quick mop, and you are finished-no cleaning grout and resealing grout, no cracked tiles from the kids dropping things. Also, we had a tile leak in our bathroom in our old house. Out beautiful tile in the master was installed incorrectly and leaked between the shower stall and the tub. By the time we found out we had to replace the entire floor, including some joists and sheet rock the entire garage. Naturally, we had to replace the sheet rock in the bathroom and tile again. It was a nightmare. I told my husband I didn't ever want to look at tile again. Also, when we put the house on the market, I spent hours on my hands and knees touching up that floor. Laminate and linoleum are out of style right now, but they were introduced as a modern convenience years ago-these materials are very durable and easy to clean and very convenient....See MoreMy new furniture has arrived!! Comments (10)In the living room, how about pulling your couch out from the wall to about where that little chair is. You can use the outlet that is there for your lamps, just put the extension cords under the sofa and tables. This will help bring your seating area together. Right now they look like islands in a sea of a very pretty room :) Since you will have all this room behind the sofa, consider a tall case piece to display books, plates, or whatever you like to look at. I know it's not nice to say this, but I hate those type of recliners. They make them look nice and streamlined now, instead of big and poofy. Would your DH consider a different style of recliner? Something with regular arms and a tighter back would compliment your sofa. Is the chair and a half new, too? Depending on how you feel about that piece, you could return it and get two smaller scale chairs with a little table in between for a second seating area. Your room shape is a lot like mine only I have an entrance at one end that takes up some room. I put my couch across from the fireplace then two chairs opposite, each flanking the fireplace. DH gets a prime viewing spot and I get to lay down on the couch every night and watch TV! Here's a pic of how I did mine. It looks like I forgot to pull the coffee table back after vacuumming....See MoreA little help accessorizing with plates, please!
