Hardwood under washer/dryer?
Comments (7)I hate to be a buzzkill, but my brother had hardwood in his laundry room until the Big Leak. Now it's tile. We put a high quality vinyl floor in our laundry room, with a water alarm sitting next to the washer. It looks good next to the hardwood it butts up against. Some folks feel that vinyl is a low quality material not worthy of a nice space, but believe me, the new "resilient flooring" is NOT your mother's vinyl. It looks great and does not have the sticky feel to it that the old stuff had. Personally, as much as I love hardwood, (And I do!) I would not take the chance of putting it anywhere with water lines. YMMV, of course. Some GW members are much braver than others! :-) Cj...See MoreNew washer/dryer dilemma
Comments (21)Hello, catching the tail end of this so you might have made a purchase already but.. I have been selling laundry for 2 years now. Here is my take- Capacity vs clean clothes- There are three ways to go. 1. Front load laundry- You get the capacity do bedding, comforters etc. The drum rotates back and forth getting everything wet constantly. This style of washer and dryer are quiet. Get a washer with the "fanfresh" option etc. What this option does is blows air and tumbles the clothing after the cycle finishes. Great for when you are away or asleep. The key to front load laundry is to use minimal soap and warm water, and keep the fabric softener to a minimum as well. 2. New style top load laundry with wash plate design. All of the complaints lately are from these machines. They do not fill more than half way up at the most. Some machines have a bulky cycle that evidently fill higher. These machines have huge capacity but when filled to that capacity just do not agitate enough to clean really dirty clothes and can leave soap on the clothes. 3. The last option is to buy a Speed Queen washer. Yes the capacity is only 3.3 cu.ft. No you will not get a comforter larger than a thin full inside and wash correctly. The washer comes with a 3 year warranty. The drum is stainless steel and warrantied for life. There is no lid lock. It has a real agitator. The AWN432 only uses a timer. No control board to go out. The 82 and 92 series washers are exactly the same units but with a control board. These two units come with a 5 year warranty. Or you can go to the front load and or stack design like you mentioned. Speed Queen is still USA made by Alliance commercial laundry. G.E. is now made by a Chinese company. Just don't buy Samsung. That is even worse. Korean.....See MoreCounter top for washer/dryer
Comments (27)I would say I have to agree with your contractor. If you are already putting countertops in your home, it's not considerably more to do another room. There may be left over material from the kitchen, or the fabricator may have a remnant that would work. If you're going to go through the production of building a top for your washer and dryer - plywood will look pretty cheap, and will not have a nice smooth surface. In general wood is not a good option as it will scratch and is also susceptible to water damage. More and more my clients are asking me to do this - enclose their washers and dryers and put a quartz countertop above. I'm thinking that this will soon be the new norm. So my advice is that if your budget can stretch it - go for the quartz top - it might help your home value too. Otherwise, just leave "as is" - as many have already mentioned - you CAN fold on top of the existing appliances. - Just my humble opinion....See MoreQuick! I need help with a new laundry room layout!
Comments (14)In your first photo, it looked like you already had a nice vanity and sink in the room. That's what I would move next to the toilet. There is also a mop sink? Correct? Yes, I would put your washer and dryer, on their pedestals, next to the mop sink. The next wall would get uppers and lowers with a counter, leaving room for laundry baskets and maybe even one of those sorter things. I'm jealous. I have a decent sized laundry room as well, that I share with the furnace...👎 As long as it's already plumbed, I would also keep the toilet, making for a half bath in the house. 👍 Good luck. It will be great....See MoreGeorgette Hardin
