It's funny that you're complaining about an unbalanced room, but then don't want to do what it would take to fix it. If you're going to leave the TV over the fireplace, then you still need two smaller chairs. Those chairs are too big and thus are making you face them in the wrong direction. If you got smaller chairs, then they could be included in the seating configuration while still being able to see the TV. And then i would get a piece of furniture for between the two windows with art over it. I would set up a small makeshift bar on it. And I would still cover up all of those windows, not only for glare, but it will make the room look bigger and more luxurious if you have something soft on the walls (not the skimpy sheers you have now). I would put a console table behind the couch with two lamps on it for lighting.

Lights flanking a door should be equidistant measured from each side of the door. The electrician messed up. The electrician should be responsible to fix it. The fixture on the left side of door needs to be moved closer to the door so that it is the same distance as the right side. This should not cost you anything. And no putting an ugly plate over the mistake is not the solution. Have them fix this correctly. I don't care how much you like your builder. He knows this was done incorrectly and it needs to be fixed correctly.

If landscape (or even architectural) design was a formulaic or rule-driven process, then anyone could do it.....once they learned the 'rules'. But it is not. Design is an art, not a science, and is ruled only by visual perception. If you examine the basic principles - guidelines only, not rules - they are all based on visual perception: balance, scale, repetition, unity, proportion, flow or sequencing, etc. It is how these are interpreted and applied by the designer with respect to the specific site that determines the success of the final design. Really, the only rules that apply to landscaping are horticultural.....selecting the plants appropriate to the climate, growing conditions and ultimate size/scale. And because these are not static or permanent entities to the design, you can even fudge the "rules" with them as well.

To my eye the side table looks fine. The yellow afghan is just making it look a little crowded on that side. I'd move the table to the left a bit so it touches the sofa, if it isn't touching it already. Then move it back just a few inches so it's recessed from the front of the sofa. Center the lamp, and remove the decor items to keep the focus on your fireplace. Your drapes would look better if they covered more of the wall on either side, so if your rods are extendable, pull them out a bit more. Either way, hang the curtain so it goes all the way to the end of the rod at the finial, i.e. a pleat or 2 should be between the bracket and the finial.
