HELP with living room curtains

Hi everyone! We have all of these beautiful windows along the backside of our house. We love all of the natural light that comes through and we are backed up to a permanent green space so we don't have a privacy issue. We opted against blinds/shutters as we want to keep the entire view, but we definitely need SOMETHING!! I am thinking some type of light, airy, sheer or semi-sheer curtain. I am not sure if I should go with something that has a pattern to it( while still being a sheer curtain) or just a plain natural white or beige color. Not sure about the door, but am thinking of leaving it uncovered completely if that wouldnt look strange?? Also, would love advice on curtain rod selection(dark, chrome, etc), spindle design and placement of curtain rod. Thanks so much! I can't wait to hear your suggestions!

What a wonderful view! I don't blame you for not wanting to cover it.

I would hang the rod as close to the ceiling as you can and panels to the right and left side of each group of windows. Personally, I like the curtains to blend to the wall so your view is the star. In other situations, without such a beautiful view, the curtains can be patterned and more of an accent. JMO. Like this:

I like color and pattern, but then I also like a pretty, natural linen curtain (like Ikea's Aina curtains) for an airy look. They're reasonably priced and sold by the pair, which is nice.

Your room looks like it has a lot of solid brown furniture in it, so this might be an opportunity to add color, pattern, and texture. Or at least some color.

Not a fan of chrome or nickel curtain rods. In your room I would probably go with black rods.

What kind of budget do you have? Have you considered Roman Shades or even faux romans at all? I think with the size of your windows, they may be a good option. The thing that I ran into when I bought our living room panels “off the shelf” from JCP, is that not one of the panels was the 84 inches the package said it was. Some were two inches shorter and others were 2-3 inches longer. When I inquired a manager about it, I was told that as far as quality control was concerned that was acceptable. (No wonder they’re going out of business!). I went to several of their locations trying to find 6 panels of equal length and still no success. I ended up having to buy 96 inch panels and paying an additional 120.00 to a seamstress to have them all cut down. If I had known then what I know today about Etsy, I would have gone that route in a heart beat. Choosing fabric can absolutely be over whelming, but most of the shops have fabrics to choose from too. It’s really no different than buying from Pottery Barn or Wayfair and the quality will be so much better. I found this faux Roman shade in the Etsy store JamiesInteriors. I like how the fabric is repeating the colors in your rug while introducing a couple of new colors too. I’m not the best at choosing fabrics myself but this at least gives you an idea.

They should just skim the floor so definately need to be lengthened and as Diana mentiond the rings might do the job since your drapes are just pocket ones.A pretty room but I think anice piece of art in that frame would be better than the mirror If it was my room I think I would do blue faux silk drapes.

The rug is the wrong orientation in relation to sectional. Rotate the sectional so the chaise is on the fireplace wall. Or pull the sectional back, center it on the fireplace, and rotate the rug to center on the fireplace. And remove the pieces from in front of the fireplace so the rug can be closer to it. Can you separate the sectional into two pieces facing each other, one under the window and one on the wall -- and rotate the rug down the middle between them. That woud be ideal...you could see more of the rug. And get bold artwork for the long wall that will compliment the bold rug. Plain curtains are also pretty and simple Patterned curtains are also pretty as well so that your living room is not that too plain.

Agree with the above, and would keep them light in color, with perhaps a self pattern or stripe. What you do need desperately is a beautiful and colorful large rug to break up all that solid furniture and brown floor. Do you even have a coffee table. What about lamps? By the way, you can leave the door uncovered. Make sure the rods are long enough so that the panels when open don't obscure the windows. I wouldn't use sheers or semisheers since they tend to look unsubstantial. Ask me how I know.

Thanks so much for all of your suggestions! I am really loving the idea of a dark curtain rod close to the ceiling with a panel on either side of the window groupings that match the wall color. It would be nice to be able to close the curtains sometimes....what kind of extra support would I need for that? Would a bracket on both sides plus one in the middle be sufficient?
We just moved into this home (from a much much smaller home) a few months ago so that's why we don't have a lot of decor just yet. We are slowly but surely making our way (paying off our credit card in between decor projects, lol).
