Looks very good! I'm not sure about shutters, but porch railings might be nice to have, and landscaping plus a front walkway will certainly help.

Thanks Carol! We had a nice walkway lined with 15+ year old boxwoods that they had to remove for construction. We also had dwarf azaleas along the front porch as well as around most of the house. We plan on landscaping when all the work crews leave.

Looks nice. No to shutters. What's the garage door to be? I'd have a landscape architect draw up plans for installations you can do yourself over time. Get a good start this spring and then flesh it out over the next 6 seasons or so. If the crushed shell is typical for your area, you might use it for your walkways through the landscaping.

@chispa - Thank you for the suggestions! There is a matching oak nearby which we decided to keep them both due to sentimental reasons tied to my deceased mother. We were assured the oak roots were not interfering with the porch or house foundation. Here's a shot from much earlier in the build showing the trees.

@decoenthusiaste - The garage doors have yet to be picked out but we had very basic insulated roll down doors with no windows in them.

The plans from a landscaping architect would be amazing. It sure would lighten burden of decision making as this whole rebuilding process has been rather arduous having to deal with the insurance company. We'll look into it!

As for the crushed shell, its not a typical style for the area but not unheard of either. We're about 50 miles west of Savannah, Ga and the coast. The biggest problem with it is multiple cracks in it. It's basically a facade (1/2" thick) over the block wall underneath. We're thinking about removing it all and somehow dressing up or re-covering the blocks.

You did a fantastic job of rebuilding your home from the pics you posted. No to shutters. I like the nice, clean look you have now. Landscaping is the next thing to do that will finish your look. Deco's idea is spot on.

As to front door color: consider a deep eggplant or even a 'rusty' orange for your front door. Both Benjamin Moore and Sherwin Williams have the ability to paint your front door virtually on their website when you upload your home. It's an effective way to narrow your choices, but you still have to do some sampling to get just the right color.

I think it looks great as it is. At this point, I think you'll see far more benefit from spending effort and money on landscaping than on tweaks to the house.

Since you have no gutters you need stone around the base of the home to control water and keep mud from splashing on the home.

You just require a good landscaping plan for a partial shade area.

I considered a number of colors for the front door, including red and orange, and made the decision based on the color of flowers I usually have from spring through fall. Purple went best with the usual suspects : ) .

No shutters. White front door looks very nice, but you certainly could use color. I'd wait on that until all the landscaping is done.

I like the idea of the shells on the foundation. Can they not be repaired?
