Entry/Living room paint help
Comments (3)It depends what you like. If you are looking for a neutral kind of light gray/greenish/or blueish color that goes with everything you can try BM Moonshine. This color gray changes into more blue or green depending how the light hits it. I can tell you that it goes with a lot of décor. If you like warm off whites, BM Mayonnaise or Marscapone comes to mind. These 2 colors seem to be pretty no matter where you use them. Trust me, there is a lot to know about painting. I've painted my newly constructed house many times because the lighting, which way the house faces makes a green color look blue, or vice versa... Your natural red Oak floors will really affect how the color looks on your walls. My sis used SW Ivoire (? sp) with Red Oak and it made me feel like pulling my hair out when I visited. The red in the oak magnified the paint color to the point where the warmth in the paint became too strong, and it was difficult to decorate....See MoreColor(s) to Paint Interior of Entrance Door
Comments (19)Blueberry blue or a dark red would be my picks for the outside, although a spinach green or dusky purple would look good too -- your brick is a good shade that will go with lots. Indoors I think all white w/ white trim (a white that matches your cabinets) would be fine, especially since your trim and stair are white also; but I think that I would rather try to match the wall. Using an enamel (gloss or semi-gloss) will change it enough from the wall to give it interest without being obviously different. If I didn't like it after a few months, I would repaint. It only takes an hour to paint a door....See MoreLooking for ideas to open up Entryway to Kitchen/family room area
Comments (13)damiarain: We use the nook just for group milling, and often flip the counter stools that live at the kitchen peninsula over to the counter on the pony wall... this works well for parties or TV viewing or casual just-us dinners... or laying out a buffet or appetizers. But I've always thought it was a waste of space... it's not a very big area though... not big enough for furniture other than stools. But the pony wall and the multiple entrances really break up the space. We were not planning on changing kitchen layout. It works well, just needs a serious cosmetic facelift... too beige & faux-Tuscan. I prefer contemporary and clean lines. Also the travertine floor tiles are super cold in the winter. So we'll install hardwood floors that match the rest of the 1st floor. I'm trying to talk my husband into painting the cabinetry (which we'll keep) but so far he loves the wood look. The bay windows are 22" from the ground on the inside. We can't extend the FR to include some of living room. These rooms are on opposite sides of the kitchen so not contiguous at all. Did you mean the nook area? The FR is sunken because of the dropped ceiling. so it's hard to integrate with / extend into anything else. The LR is a wonderful room in the front of the house with great light... somewhat of a large formal LR which is less practical these days but it's a very sweet space that looks out onto the view. We always try to move guests into that room but everyone congregates in the kitchen/nook area! Swapping the FR and DR is an interesting idea though I think the DR is too small for a FR... it's narrow, opens up to the LR and is dark. You couldn't watch TV in there, as no wall is far enough away for viewing... my husband LOVES his TV;) But it would likely make a really nice kitchen....See MorePaint Colors for shadowy living room and entry
Comments (2)I don't know what the SW/BM paint equivalent is, but I have a south-facing shadowy LR in my historical house and we used Dutch Boy Stonington (I generally get that brand because I LOVE their plastic paint can) We have combinations of white trim and different natural stained wood, and I think it works well. I think when you have a historical house, you need to be cautious of 'gray' because it is so trendy right now....See Morejhmarie
