Help with fireplace design please!
Comments (2)I'm not going to be much help except for one point. A custom cabinetmaker did my mantel and built ins in my living room after I showed him a picture. I wanted cabinets With doors on the bottom and bookshelves above those. He suggested that we make the cabinets full depth and the bookshelves shallower, so that they actually look like "bookshelves". This is a terrible picture, but gives you an idea of what I'm talking about....See MorePlease help me design a window seat beside a corner fireplace
Comments (28)Hi Annie, Thanks for your thoughts. Your opinion is valued. Just to clarify, the TV would be in a cabinet a bit like the one below, but with wood painted cabinet in a lighter colour. We are planning on a much smaller TV than pictured too. The electricity and other wires for the TV would go through the floor from the basement below (floor plugs). Powering the TV is not really a challenge, and nor is cord control with the right designed cabinet. [Contemporary Living Room[(https://www.houzz.com/photos/contemporary-living-room-ideas-phbr1-bp~t_718~s_2103) by Other Metro Photographers Elad Gonen As per running around the TV, that could be an issue, and maybe it is just plain awkward. My youngest is 8. In general I am striving for a practical design where some seating can see the fireplace and some the TV. We hope to rework a few other versions. Hopefully you will come back and let me know if you like any other other versions better. Is there anything else you dislike about the latest design after my clarification? Any other opinions on the 18:41 version posted today? Thanks for the help! Carol...See MoreCorner Fireplace design dilemma - help please
Comments (8)Thank you nhbaskets. I like your fireplace. The dilemma I've run into is that the fireplace isn't square to the corner, so my taking the tile up to the ceiling probably isn't going to work. I might try something like in the picture below. This layout looks so much like our house. I'm thinking Framing the upper part in - then maybe putting stacked stone on the upper and lower fireplace sections with the mantle in between. I can't come out too far on the upper left because there is a window frame in the way....See MoreNew build/First home. Please help with fireplace design!!
Comments (13)Thanks for the feedback on this everyone. Just wanted to update in case anyone else has such a dilemma. I DID find the material I was looking for (grey with white veining) after searching inventory systems all over the country for weeks. The material is a marble, and called Blue de Savoie. I ordered a sample of from a slab and fell in love. Sadly, the slabs were only available in NYC and I was outside of their delivery range. I tried everything to get the slab or something similar sourced through local vendors and could not make it work. I ended up going with a Carrara marble instead which wasn’t exactly what I was looking for but did turn out very nicely. I think the fireplace complements the kitchen and other finishes we chose well. Please see attached for initial Savoie de blue marble I found, how our fireplace turned out and a photo of our kitchen which is located at the other end of the room that the fireplace is in. The house is still under construction hence some incomplete finishes. Thanks everyone for the feedback....See MoreUser
