Comments (52)fori, I was actually surprised how dead-on the form of your piece actually was to those early 19th c. examples. I was expecting a little more artistic license but while they appeared to take details Off, they didn't really try to stick anything else On, and that's good :) jterrilyn, I am also a fan of this type of furniture, whether moderne or colonial-revival. The better examples still pretty much follow the proportions of the originals, and are actually much better scaled than a lot of today's furniture. And even the kind of ugly stuff is still solid as a rock. I have a very small dresser, maybe 15" by 30" by 36" that my mother bought "in the dime store" when she went to college in 1952 it's survived trips from Virginia to Philadelphia to Pittsburgh and back again as well as a flood in my parents old house, and various other traumas, and it is still solid. It probably cost her $5.00 new, it was that era's example of disposable furniture, and 60 years later it's still hanging around....See MoreDecorating and Mid- life crisis
Comments (30)Firstly, I really didnt mean to come off insenstive or anything of the sort. So I am truly sorry if I offended anyone. Secondly, I cant thank you enough for your responses. Oceanna - what you said really got to me. I really appreciate you taking the time to write that. So many of you definitely made a shift in my thinking. I am semi - new to home decorating and interior designing and I am kind of riding different waves to learn as much as I can from every angle so that blog was one path I took. I hope to write a retraction to the article within the next couple of days. From what I have gathered it seems that I am one of the youngest members on the forum which in this case was a little bit intimidating due to the harshness of some of the responses but on the other hand I am learning much more than I accepted I could from a forum. With the new year coming up I really am sorry if this offended or hurt anyone. It really wasn't my intention. I would like to take skypathys opinion and ask why people are here. And how long have forums been a help to people in need of decorating advice. Its incredible to see how much help the internet can be, especially these forums. Its amazing! Thank you for all your responses - I cant even express how nice it was to get them - even though some hurt a bit, but I guess I deserved it reading over the blog. Comments (25)Well, that was easy, LOL. White! I think the pink tone must be a screen thing, since it's not reading pink irl. Thank you all for weighing in, and thank you for the kind words about our family. We were able to enjoy a sweet celebration with each other. My momma heart was touched to see all the thought and hard work that the kiddos put into the gifts that they made or got for their sister. I got choked up seeing how much they love each other. I'm so grateful for each and every one of them. And, you all can jump in and join the fun any time. The more the merrier! : ) (I removed the family pics. DH wasn't keen with having them up.) It would be cool to prop up a sample tiled decorative piece, but I have no such thing. I was talking with one of my daughters and a friend the other day about adding some decorative tile details. The brought up that more grooves might be harder to clean, where a totally subway tiled area would be a cinch to wipe down. I like cinches. If I had to take a scrub brush to a tiled frame behind the cooktop in order to clean out all the grooves, it would not be pleasant. DIY can be so much fun, and they are some of my favorite kitchens to keep an eye on here. The mega kitchens are wonderful for drooling on, but seeing a kitchen that a family has worked on themselves, leaving their special mark, is inspiring and heartwarming to me. I came across this one one the Finished Kitchen Blog while searching for white subway tiles the other day. It's full of ingenuity. We DIYed our last kitchen as well. It can be seen here. Like Funkycamper said, we DIYers are here quietly cheering each other on. It just takes us a little longer to finish up sometimes. ; ) So, you are not alone diymom. Hopefully you'll share your progress with us!...See MoreLiving room decor & layout....what's missing?
Comments (21)I think I'm going to start with mantle and artwork and would like to add blue as an accent. The rest of the room will be easier to fall into place. I'd like to paint the existing mirror white to better match, I like the size and style. Eventually I will get console cabinets for either side of the fireplace. What do you think? I'm ready to check out on most of these items!! I feel like I'm heading in the right direction. (My posts keep disappearing, so going to split up pictures separately)....See MoreRina
