choosing a carpet color for an upstairs bedroom and stairway

The room has a large western facing window and gets lots of light here in Northern California.The ceiling is slopedi part of the room.The carpet purchase is an investment ,so I will have to be happy with it for the next 25 years despite color trends that come and go. Current color is a very warm medium brown. The room will be refurnished . I prefer a clean or modern style and like to sit on the floor and use it for projects or playing. Thank you for your suggestions.

I just got ivory color carpet in my bedrooms this past year and I like it. Its not stark white or boring beige. It is nice neutral. Now being on the lighter side I think it will get dirty looking fast on stairs. I personally don't like carpet on stairs.

Why not do the floor like the rest of the house and add an area rug. IMO wall to wall carpet just harbors smells, dust and on stairs it just gets gross.

I have a carpet cleaning business, which means that I'm in a lot of homes, & see a lot of different decorating styles. Where carpeting is concerned, I find that places with the same carpeting throughout the house generally also have the same decorating style throughout, & it's often just - well, to me anyway - boring Later model homes, little imagination displayed, not a lot of life. (disclaimer: this is not ALWAYS the case, but I find that it is common) The other side of the spectrum is lots of different, non-neutral colors on the carpets - usually, (again, not ALWAYS) the carpets are older & not expensive - often so old they are borderline in needing replacement - & there's a mishmash of styles & personalities showing through. Sometimes it works wonderfully, but usually only when there is a very creative person living there. Not so easy to pull off. What works best, in my experience & opinion, is neutrals that work together, but not all matching. Maybe the master in one color, the other bedrooms in another. Different floors, different carpets. Area rugs are where you can bring in the colors. With the neutrals you have room to be creative, or safe - whatever makes you comfortable. Carpet can be a very expensive & long-lasting choice - the one thing I do recommend is buy the very best you can afford - it's an investment! Have fun choosing :)

If the upstairs hallway is currently carpet, I would just leave it in. Even if it doesn't match anything else right now. Honestly, there's not much reason to do the hallway only in hardwood. If you are worried about it being "seen" from the main floor, just remember that it is OK for the flooring to be different on different levels of the home. Anyone who would complain doesn't deserve access to the the private area of your home upstairs anyway. (I hope you don't have that kind of MIL). Start saving for hardwood for the full upstairs and do that when you are ready.

He needs a new twin bed for sure and as for wall color keep it neutral since his favorite color will change many times over the next few years. That dresser in front of the wall heater needs to be moved , it is always best to have nothing in front of a window that kids can climb on and maybe just put that in the closet. I think the wall color you have works well Get some fun removeable decals all about dinosaurs BTW all 3.5 yr boys love dinosaurs and I love the bedding. A littl bean bag in a gree for a spot for him to sit and could you show the whole room , IMO he needs books

Yes, you should use a carpet that is long enough, the design for the bedrooms is not dull and has a good quality, I know a good site that has a quality and beautiful Iranian carpet, my price is reasonable, click here

I know carpet is out of fashion now, but I have had very light (beige/ivoryish) carpet throughout my house for the past 15 or so years, and really do like it. It's very neutral and light, and wears well. Only one room has shown wear....I have had it cleaned a few years ago and it cleaned up beautifully. I am very pleased with that. I agree with function. I do also have it on the stairs. It might get stained, but as someone who is very sensitive to odors, I do not find that it harbors smells, dust or is gross. :)

Hard floors are fine in some areas of the country, but in cold areas carpet is so much warmer under foot and energy efficient. I laugh when I see people put in hard floors and then cover almost the whole floor with a rug and runners anyway. Why? You just have twice the expense and twice the work cleaning. Carpet gets no more dust or smells than any other flooring. In fact carpet is better to have because it traps the dust in the carpet until vacuumed. Not just blowing around every time some one walks across it and disturbs it. My son and family bought a house 3 years ago with newly finish hardwood floors. They thought it was great to have hardwood. Now 3 years later they hate them. Between a toddler, two dogs and a cat they look like crap, constant maintenance, and in the winter have to wear shoes constantly. It is very uncomfortable to sit on the floor to play with the toddler. They are looking into putting in wall to wall.
