Got Wallpaper?
Comments (27)My mother, may she rest in peace, became a rabid over-paperer in her later years. I think it was the classic case of being bored in retirement, coupled with fancying herself to being a good interior decorator. She started simply enough--one accent wall. Not a paper I would have chosen, but not horrible. Then the sickness spread, lol! Every wall in the house got papered. A different pattern for every room. Then she decided they all needed top borders. So she did that in every single room. She thought the borders went with the wallpaper. They did not. THEN she put an accent strip about 5" wide at about chair rail height in yet another pattern that didn't go with the paper or even with the top border! THEN, lol, she decided to wallpaper the fronts of the sliding closet doors in the bedrooms! She used a completely different pattern than on the walls, and then ran a border completely around the frame, yep, in another pattern. So five totally different patterns in the bedrooms! Her last wallpaper effort was to affix strips of wallpaper on top of the wallpaper with little instructions she had written in black calligraphy, such as "guest towels," and "pantry," Oh the humanity!! If she had seen these pictures, I've no doubt she would've wallpapered the ceilings. To this day I almost throw up when I think about wallpaper! When we sold the house, the realtor told us we'd have to take $10,000 off the list price because of the wallpaper. :-)...See MoreWallpaper ideas for a studio
Comments (5)The room was in the restoration stages and in addition it is full of boxes because my mom passed away and we sold her house. I was trying to order the wallcovering during the sale. I thought the fabric and wallcovering pictures would be enough. Looks like it wasn't - thank you anyway....See MoreSOS! Need help with curtain color
Comments (16)of course you can take the vertical blinds down! Those seriously have to go. otherwise, nothing you put up is going to look good. (if they were black or dark gray, it would be slightly better. but that bright white against that wallpaper?? heck no. and BTW, is it peel and stick wallpaper??) carefully take them down and store them. (or ask the landlord if it's ok to replace them w/something from this century) take photos w/o any window coverings so we can see what we're dealing with. are you doing a tv on that wall? if not, find a nice piece of art to hang above the fireplace...See MoreCurtains, crown molding, and window trim...HELP!
Comments (6)The lower piece of moulding is a picture rail. I would consider painting the frieze area (above the picture rail) the same color as the lower wall. Then you can put the curtain rod up higher if you want. However, this style of house which seems kind of pre WWII, with some elements used in craftsman houses (that doesn't mean it is Craftsman, the details were just popular), the curtains were often hung from the window casing to the sill or apron, or even within the casing itself on very small diameter rods. Back when more people did wallpaper, because the paint roller hadn't been invented yet, the area between the lower and upper molding would frequently have had a wallpaper border or frieze different from below, or a different paint color than below....See Moreneverbedone
