SOS! Need help with curtain color

We recently just put up this wallpaper as an accent wall in our living room and I’m struggling to pick curtains that I feel like go well with the pattern/color. The wallpaper is “black & gold” but in person looks more matte black (almost navy) and the gold is isn’t very brassy, more like a cream. Our couch is color is “smoke”, in person it’s definitely a darker grey with almost blueish tints. We tried tan curtains and didn’t love that, then tried pairing with black panels (pictured) and don’t really love that either. We don’t have accent colors in the room yet, so we’re open to all the color options. Thanks for any and all suggestions! 😊

divamum, it was crazy fast, once it finally got rolling! I sat with a big empty box of a room for about three weeks waiting for the cabinet guy. But once he started installing, that meant Joshua could come put in my soapstone, and everything else just fell into place very quickly. I went from NOTHING to almost everything in literally 48 hours. I think that, by the end of this week, I'll be done with everything in the kitchen, except of course the backsplash! :) malhgold, the range is an Aga Legacy--and the gas is finally turned on!! Woohooo!! Wouldn't you know it, though, I have to teach tonight and then I'm going out of town for two days, so I won't be able to actually cook on it until Friday. Ugh!! fern4, the wood is cherry in a natural finish. Thanks so much for the McIntyre link. There are some beautiful options there. I will have to spend some time perusing! plllog, one of my first choices was a pale green glass tile with a little cobalt glass thrown in for accent pieces. I may have to revisit that. If I can find the pics again, I'll post them. I'm loving these suggestions. Sometimes my head gets stuck on one thing and, even though I know it's not what I want, I can't move past it. This is really helping me think outside my self-imposed box.

sis2two, do you think the lacy curtains don't work because of their ivory color or because they are lacy? (Or both?) Personally, I don't think window treatments have to work with trim as much as with other major decorative elements in a room. So, in your case, the color of the bedding in conjunction with the metallic grey (or black) color of your bed, etc. would be the things to coordinate with. But perhaps what you need is something else to tie the curtains to the bed and bedding....what about an ivory or perhaps a white and ivory carpet or rug? Then, you'd have something with ivory in it placed between the bed and the curtains and window trim.

You are accepting incredible stories, you are involved in stalking & harrassment, you are relating the horrible way he treats his children, & it has no effect on you. It doesn't touch your euphoria at all. You're on a high, just as though you were on drugs. Reality doesn't seem real. But euphoria wears off, & then you'll feel humiliated & ashamed of yourself. Men who do this kind of thing know very well what they're doing; they're taking advantage of the vulnerability of women to certain "triggers" or signals. Men who "sweep you off your feet", "bombard" you with flowers & love notes, say that you're their soulmate, etc *know very well* that these behaviors trigger the release of endorphins, the feel-good/euphoria-producing hormones. They know that, as long as they keep that stuff going on, they can do anything they want, they can tell unbelievable lies, they can engage in flagrant misbehavior, & their target will believe them, will stay with them, will remain "stupidly in love" with them. They have absolute power over their targets. They don't want a "soulmate". They want a victim to abase & to con. One of the most potent things that they use is physical proximity. Females who remain in close physical proximity with a male *always* eventually bond with him. How many times have you heard a dazed, bewildered wife going through a divorce say something like, "I didn't like him when I first met him, but he kept pursuing me, & I finally thought I loved him. Now I think I must have been out of my mind"? That's exactly what happens. Once the euphoria wears off (& it will, just like any other drug), the woman crashes. & the man doesn't care. The game's over, he's "won", he's made a fool of her, & he's off to the next one. You lost. Your problem. Just like it's his ex-wife's problem right now. Try an experiment: Sever all connections for 14 days, that's 2 weeks. Don't see him, speak to him, email him. Don't accept presents, don't read letters or emails from him. Pretend he never came into your life. Then re-read the things you've written on this thread. I wish you the best.

It would help if we could see the openings.. in daylight.. without curtains… are they doors?..windows?..in any case curtains that close to a fireplace may be a hazard..

The wall didn't NEED the wallpaper, and the windows don't need vertical blinds!

Take better pictures with the verticals pushed to side, and all the curtains off the wall. Show more pictures, other angles of the space and further back.

Thanks for the advice so far! Will post pictures in the daytime tomorrow, but they’re patio doors to a small patio with a divider wall. So, no views and we never have the doors open. Can’t take the vertical blinds down, we rent so I was just trying to cover them up. Fireplace is never used since we live in Southern California.

Where the heck is all the yellow cast coming from the whole room look yellow. IMO lighting first and IMO all LED 4000K to take the yellow out of the space .Witout seeing the wallpaper how can we even begin to help \I wou take those verticals down and put up just the drapes store the binds in a clset when you move out you will need to remove the wall perp the drapes and rehang the blinds I did it many times when we rented.

of course you can take the vertical blinds down! Those seriously have to go. otherwise, nothing you put up is going to look good. (if they were black or dark gray, it would be slightly better. but that bright white against that wallpaper?? heck no. and BTW, is it peel and stick wallpaper??)

carefully take them down and store them. (or ask the landlord if it's ok to replace them w/something from this century)

take photos w/o any window coverings so we can see what we're dealing with.

are you doing a tv on that wall? if not, find a nice piece of art to hang above the fireplace

Try this:

Two rods installed as high as possible. One white draperies panel for each window stacked back.

During the day, open the verticals. It should "hide" under the drapery. Never close it; as in ignore it. Close the draperies instead. Over fireplace, hang art with a lot of white in it.

Wallpaper was an added expense that was not necessary.
