So excited - painted my house black! Trim?
Comments (43)Well they started doing the trim in the cream and we all looked at it and shook our heads. Just not working. Decided it's either got to be a real contrast or stick with white. And since I'm not willing to commit to a colour at this point, white it is. Still leaves me the option of painting the door any colour I want (I could even change it yearly!) or adding colour to the front window frames. roarah, thanks for the link to the cursive letters. I'm going to measure and see if they'll fit on the window trim. Also found the vinyl ones on etsy, but I'm not sure how reliable they are. kmcg, I like that churlish green too. It seems similar to the gold I chose for the accent strip. I don't have it on my F&B colour sheet. I wonder if it's new. They finished the 2nd coat today and started on the trim so they should be done in another day or two. I'll post pix of the finished product. I have to admit I feel as if I've let down the side a bit by going with the safe white. Will really have to find something jazzy for that door....See MoreIdeas on trim color for a white house - besides black or baby blue
Comments (29)Groveraxle, thank you SO much for the renderings. How helpful. I really hadn't thought of green much but all this feedback is making me reconsider. And I agree that the lemonade porch ceiling should be a sky blue (for both tradition and the joy of it). Pennydesign, the green/blue pots are from the stoop on my last house. Previously I had potato vine (which does well here), coming through the gumdrop shaped metalwork top pieces. I picked them up at a garage sale, long ago, and they seem to be designed to be part of a hanging plant but are so huge, I never got around to hanging them anywhere. So I stuck them on those pots to give them some presence. I've also wound lights around them in the winter to highlight the gumdrop look. I put them there when I moved just to sort of mark the path but they don't have to live there. This year I've been so busy with other house projects (all the boring and costly system stuff) that I haven't planted anything so maybe they look silly?...See MoreImproving curb appeal: White house, black trim, and red bricks
Comments (7)The red bricks are not really dating the house any more than the architectural style is. It is what it is......a mid to late century ranch style. And unless you do something significant to alter or amend that style, it will still read from that time period. Sure, you could cover the brick with ledgestone or a stone veneer but that is not going to change the style or necessarily "update" it. I think if you really want to update the exterior appearance, you need to get an architect involved. Any landscaping would necessarily wait until after all that was completed....See MoreDark trim vs. White. Updating home without painting ALL TRIM white??
Comments (20)* Also when looking at the hallway ^... that photo of the "door" to the right is actually an elevator door...(Its faux painted...done before we moved here.) That is also the dilemma... if husband paints trim white... there is that door and I do NOT want to paint it white. so can the trim around the door be painted?...See MoreUser
