Concrete steps pulling away from house
Comments (5)I believe our situation was similar. We have a concrete porch at the front door which has a foundation projecting about 6 feet into the lawn. Then a concrete step down to the sidewalk. The step and first section of the sidewalk were settling. I believe this is a consequence of backfill from construction. I had a concrete jacking company lift it. They drilled a hole through both the step and sidewalk section. Then, under high pressure pumped concrete into the void below thus lifting everything level. It cost $275 but I'm not sure I would have been able to lift and level it myself. Aside from a newer concrete "spot" on the surface one would never know anything was done....See MoreInstall base cabinets away from wall, to gain counter space?
Comments (20)As I type this, the contractors are downstairs framing the north wall of our galley layout so that the counters will be 4" deeper. They will be 2" taller on both sides. We are doing what Co-Co has done -- which I am glad to see, because a couple of the contractors we interviewed thought it was just too weird. Our kitchen is 10' wide -- just wide enough that you'd almost want an island but there's really no room for it. Making the counters the same depth as the refrigerator also allows us to repair the walls from the previous remodel where they'd cut out several studs to run plumbing....See Morethe "HOW" of installing base cabinets away from wall
Comments (8)You've got to assess the high spot in the floor, same as any standard install. Then locate the attachment rail in your cabinets, and it's width, and height from the floor. Use a level, and scribe a line around the room that's is the same height as the rail from the high spot in the floor. Then pre-drill the 2x (or whatever blocking that you choose) and use lag screws to attach it to the studs. Don't overtighten if the walls are out of square. Use shims to keep the blocking square and true. You want to be slightly high or low of the center line so as to leave some "meat" to get your cabinet attachment screw into without hitting the lag screw. All the rest of the cabinets will need to be shimmed to that high spot so the run will be level all around. The attachment rail should line up with the blocking all the way around the room if you've got the cabinets shimmed properly. Walls that are out of plumb can cause some issues, so you have to be sure to have plenty of shims available and be prepared to have end panels that are scribable that can conceal both the blocking and the wonky walls....See MoreUpper kitchen cabinet pulling away from wall
Comments (3)Well, the first thing you need to do is empty the cabinet of all its contents, including shelves if possible. Then, depending on your skill level, there are, as I see it, two ways to proceed. You could: Try to shore up the cabinet in situ, OR Remove the cabinet from the wall, fix it, then rehang it FWIW I recommend the latter. EDIT: You know what, after looking more closely at the second picture, which I neglected to open the first time around, I think you must remove it....See Moreslrohrer
