Rich colors and materials give this 300-square-foot apartment an air of luxury
The walls were torn down and rebuilt to create two closets. The apartment no longer has any doors. Instead, enlarged doorways allow uninterrupted lines of sight throughout the space.
Another unifying feature is the floor finish: The oak extends into the kitchen, connecting it to the rest of the home.

It was necessary to include both a bed and a couch for guests in the sleeping area, since the owners didn’t want to give up on either. They chose compact furniture to fit the dimensions of the space. A retro two-seater couch sits between the enclosed balcony and the bed.

A vintage kilim rug from Istanbul — a favorite with the owners’ two cats — provides contrast to the bright green walls.

“We stuck to a clear concept from the very beginning: a vivid color palette, interesting furniture and graphic elements. We did change individual details over the course of the renovation — we had to find some similar-looking budget replacements for some pieces. For example, we used an Ikea chest of drawers from the owner’s old apartment. I repainted it and replaced the old handles with brass ones,” Veselova says.
The enclosed balcony adds to the usable floor area of the apartment. The bank of windows that had separated it from the inside was removed, but the lower part of the wall was retained. It now sections off a small home office.
The other side of the balcony contains a closet.

Preserving a sense of airiness is important in a small space. The white cabinets, sleek stainless steel countertops and open range hood keep things light.

There are many interesting details in the kitchen. For example, the knobs on the cabinet doors are made of marble, and the car-shaped lights are made of solid oak.

The owners fell in love with the mosaic floor tiles and designed the rest of the bathroom around them. The sand-colored wall tile in the wet areas contrasts with the deep blue walls. The area under the sink has a fabric curtain that conceals the cats’ litter boxes.
