Need Help choosing New flooring for combination living/dining room

We're looking to replace indoor/outdoor carpet that is over 25 years old and original to our house. The living room and dining room are one big connected area that is about 30 feet long and varies in width from 15' to 22'. We have cats who love to run and make hard turns, so we're looking for something that is pet friendly.

We know from previous projects that our house wasn't constructed very well and thus we're rebuilding it right. We've noticed some floor sloping at the end of the room where our entertainment center is and will be afterwards.

We lean toward eco-friendly products and of course easy to clean!

Greatly appreciate hearing suggestions on some possible products for us.

That describes my project to a tee. No pets though, and none in the future. Also I have good, solid, even floors. I'm planning on engineered wood. Sounds like you might want a floating LVP type of product.

Thanks Chess! I've mixed feelings regarding the LVP because of our previous experience with cat claws but will take a longer look at it.

I would do a round table 56” in diameter...would look great. or a 56” x76” rectangle you subtract 30” from both sides of table for room to pull out chairs and maneuver around the space...also from length.. so take the width of your room and subtract 60” and take length if your room and subtract 60” Room width....116-60=56” wide for table width room length....136-60=76” long for table length

Sounds like a fireplace re-do might be a longer-term fix. In the meantime, I'd paint the mantle a dark brown, a similar colour to your end tables. It's not trim and shouldn't be white. It pops out too much in the white colour. Another idea that doesn't involve any ripping-out is to go right over the existing mantle using a mantle slipcover in wood. I would look at bringing the off white through the entire space and remove the chair rail. Then turn the mirror and move the wall sconces as celerygirl suggests. I like the furniture in the front room. Just pull the rug toward the sofa a bit so the rug is about 6" under the legs of the sofa. I think a new fixture centered over the table would look nice.
