Bathroom countertop - marble vs quartz
Comments (17)We went with quartz in our kitchen (3 years ago now) as I know I am hard on kitchen surfaces - lots of acids between citrus and vinegar, bright fruits like berries, & not too good or quick about cleaning up spills as they occur, etc. Best decision I ever made. Just installed marble in all 3 bathroom remodels as I know I am easier on bathroom counters than kitchens and was willing to take precautions. A moment of regret when water stained it before it was sealed, but it dried out and the (professional) sealing is great. We did plan ahead - using counter "coasters" for soaps and things, installed a master sink with wide ledges to put things on, etc. Very happy with the soft, cool, translucent look and feel....See MoreHelp please! Comments (7)I'm in the same dilemma and am leaning towards Neolith, a large-scale porcelain, which comes in a couple of marble colors: Estatuario and Calacatta. It's largely indestructible (I tried on some samples), but I'm not having much luck in finding slabs to view other than an Estatuario one that I generally liked though it had a bit too much white. I think Calacutta would work better with the buttery cabinets we'd like, but I'm reluctant to go with it without seeing slabs. The fact that a mitered edge won't have the pattern is concerning too, and I'd love to see that as well. Decisions....See MoreCleaning quartz bathroom counters
Comments (14)For daily cleaning of our granite and one quartz counter, I use either Glass Plus (which is ammonia free) or a solution I make with 1 part rubbing alcohol/2 parts water and a few drops of lavender oil in a spray bottle (lavender oil optional). I buy rubbing alcohol in bulk at Sam's Club or Costco. (I'm not sure if rubbing alcohol kills all germs though.) Then, once a week, the cleaning lady uses Weiman's granite cleaner & polish on all the granite (I tried several granite cleaners/polishers and that was my favorite.) She might even use it on the quartz too, who knows. For cleaning of our one little bathroom quartz counter, I will also sometimes use Fantastik Heavy Duty which is my go-to all purpose bathroom cleaner, except for the Toto toilets we clean with a 1:1 Fabuloso/water solution in a spray bottle which is a neutral cleanser so as not to destroy the Toto sanigloss finish. (No, Fabuloso isn't a germ killer but I don't want to ruin the sanigloss finish because it makes cleaning the toilet easier in general)....See MoreBathroom quartzite seam
Comments (31)Tim H: I do sound a bit cynical, don't I? I can see both sides here. If the builder promised a seamless installation and screwed it up, he's on the hook. He had a chance to fix it very inconspicuously and blew it. I fix the mistakes on my jobs immediately. I mean stop-what-you're-doing-and-fix-it now immediately. I broke a front sink rail on an estone job several years ago and got it fixed before anyone but me ever knew. The point is, you never give a customer leverage to withhold payment if you don't have to. This builder hasn't learned that lesson yet....See MoreJoseph Corlett, LLC
