Nancy, Yes it stays outside year round here, gets watered by me every sunny day in the summer plus rain on some cloudy days. In winter it gets watered by rain or me about 3 times a week. Very bright sun, basically direct sun until about noon or so in summer, direct sun almost all day in winter. Although it is slightly shaded by other plants. Our humidity pretty much stays high. Even low humidity days here are usually above 50%. But I've got a constant breeze, as I'm along the coast. And even with the watering and humidity, it does dry out, or almost dry out by night. My breeze here is pretty strong. I was just looking through my old photos, and saw the pic I had of it last year, when it bloomed for the first time, and it seems like the plant has tripled in growth since last spring. If it goes on to bloom (keeping fingers crossed), I'll post last year vs. this year photos. Renee

Tammy, Wow, every two weeks?! The ones I have in the house (where we keep it cool, cool, COOL) get watered once a week pretty much year round. I don't like to let them get too dry... The ones in the GH get water every few days as they're out in the heat. It's hard to keep up with the watering in the GH this time of year as I have lots of other succulents to stay on top of also. That little serpens, though, is a bugger. I've found it's a tough one to water right. The fine line between too much water, which causes the leaves to yellow and drop, and too little water, which makes them dry up, is like walking a tight-rope! It's been doing pretty good lately - I put it in the sunroom late this winter because I read they don't like it real hot, and I think between the cooler temp and the ceiling fan that blows constantly, I've got the right conditions now. Congratulations :) I'm not sure if you posted a pic of the hoya cause I can't see pics from my work computer....so I have no idea what hoya you have - but I'll try to answer questions 2-4 as best as I can. 1. Bud blast can pretty much happen at any stage of bud growth. In my experience though, I have had more buds blast early on...there were only a couple of times when I had buds blast when they were very close to opening. 2. I don't know what type of hoya you have, so it would be impossible to answer this question. In other words, H. lacunosa flowers are very short lived (a few days), while H. multiflora flowers last a VERY long time (weeks). If you know the ID of your hoya, then try going to myhoyas.com - Christina has great descriptions of the flowers of each hoya species and she also usually includes how long they typically last. 3. Again, it would depend on what hoya you have. Some like warm temps and some like cooler temps. A great site for getting temperature info for each species is hoyor.net 4. Some hoyas branch out when you cut the stems and some don't. In general though, I don't think that pinching the ends off will promote new growth. But this is something I don't know much about...I'm sure someone will have a better answer. If you want a fuller plant, you can cut the stems and put them back in the pot to create a fuller look. But I'd be really careful about cutting because you don't want to cut a part of the stem that has a peduncle on it. You also might want to wait until it's finished blooming before you start messing with it! I would NOT move the hoya from the GH to your house yet just to appreciate the flowers, because you'd be taking a big risk of the buds blasting.....and then you'd have no flowers to appreciate!
