I'm pulling my hair out!! Mattress Q again!
Comments (3)Well I ended up going out today and buying a mattress, I've had it with the couch and delaying fixing the bed-- this forces it to be done so I went with the Temp Cloud Supreme. I just tossed a S&F-one of the ones you might be talking about. Beautyrest has their new "black" line, so S&F is revamping their line too now. To be honest, I've never seen or slept on a Kingsdown, I think that is the manufacturer for EA beds. (my buddy at EA says they won't work for a platform, you need the box spring to make it work. (Worse case I can return or exchange the Temp. The "heavenly Bed," I used to layover at all the Westins when UA owned them. They are ok, but you can load up your own bed to make it like that. I used to have a nice pillow top something when first out of college, then a thick featherbed from ScandiaDown, then NICE sheets, and a down quilt and pillows also from Scandia. I slept on that forever until my dog (no longer alive ) got sick and peed all over it. I think from that point forward, I have had trouble with mattresses. :( plus during that time I flew all over the world and started my career of jet lag ........... I am HOPING this one might work. and I sleep cold, husband does sleep hot, but always has to have a fan blowing on him year round - so he has to adjust. My sleep is more important. He can sleep on a brick uneven floor. He falls asleep in a minute no matter where and on whatever . HATE THAT SOOOO JEALOUS. I need ambien (doc prescribes it for you medical folks) every night for the last 20 yrs. (literally, my job has messed me up, at least I had 8 yrs of good sleeping with my line of work before the issues kicked in!,those were the days......bed is coming on Sunday, I'll keep you posted. I'll most likely still stay on the couch and air it out for a bit LOL!! (smell) I've had latex pillows before, they stink too. (smell) I did toss those, I can't ever change from down pillows!...See MoreCan a pillow top mattress be flipped?
Comments (45)We have a no flip. The pillow top was shot. Guess what? We flipped it and put the 3" memory foam pad on it that we already had and figured we'd try it for a night. Worst case we'd get a bad nights sleep and need to buy a new mattress. Best case? It's fine. Guess what? We slept on it that first night LIKE BABIES and we have been sleeping on it like that for OVER A YEAR. It's firm, but the 3" memory foam pad is so soft yet firm somehow. It feels AMAZING. When we do go and search for a new mattress someday, if it doesn't feel like our current flipped and memory foam padded "No flip" pillow top mattress, we won't get it. We've never slept better! NO NONSENSE. Try it. You have very little to lose except maybe a nights sleep. We gained better sleep. I'm sure someone from a Mattress store is going to show up and tell me how I'm full of it. No, I'm not. You are....See MoreISO: European style (?) *soft* topper + supportive mattress
Comments (16)Chispa, you are awesome! Here are the mattress topper descriptions: "LUXURY The Luxury is a stretched surface, adaptable top mattress with a soft cottonfilled summer side, a wool-filled winter side and a central section containing Talalay latex. Practical and comfortable all year round. Height: 9 cm (3.5â³). PREMIUM Top mattress Premium boasts a talalay latex core with a fibre filling. Comes with a washable, overlap-stitched stretch fabric with embroidered logo. A beautifully soft, highly adaptable top mattress featuring an eye-catching design. Height: 7 cm (2.8â³). PRESTIGE Prestige is a highly adaptable model filled with natural latex, and includes a removable stretch material cover, machine washable at 60ðC (140F). Height: 5 cm (2â³)." Although, seriously pricey. A commenter on Remodelista wrote: "FYI to other Remodelista readers, these beds start at $14,000 and go up to about $25,000. They actually cost even more than Hastens ($10-20k) or Duxiana ($6-15k). For these prices they better be stuffed with hair from unicorn tails." LOL. But knowing what the toppers are made of is useful. Edited to add: unicorn tail hair-stuffed beds are unfortunately not in the budget. Comments (34)I know this thread is old, but I came across it when doing a search for something else. We have a true Tempurpedic thick mattress (not the thin and not the pillow top.) We bought it because I was having back problems. The bed is wonderful in the winter, and really keeps you toasty. I have no problems with my back in the winter. In the summer, the bed gets too "soft" for my back. I think one reason is because our bedroom is south facing and gets very hot in the afternoon...therefore the mattress heats up and softens. I have the hot flashes, too. LOL We keep our thermostat around 72-74 in the summer (65 in the winter.) Also, I am "fluffy" so the extra weight makes the mattress sink down even further when it is warm. On the other hand, my DH is thin and he loves the mattress year round. We fight over the thermostat settings. He wants it warmer in both the summer and the winter. Ugh!!! I have found that if I place a thick mattress pad on top of the Tempur in the summer it helps keep my body heat from heating up the mattress. I take it off in the winter, so that the mattress can "catch" the cold from the room and firm up more. If I had it to do all over again, I would have either purchased the thinner mattress (these are firmer, but would make the overall bed thinner and hard to cover) or purchased the Sleep Number so that DH and I could have our own settings. Moving around the bed is a little difficult and there is absolutely no support for the back if one of the "kids" jumps on top of you. Wink, wink!...See Morealways1stepbehind
