Please help me identify the pattern of this crystal wine glass.

I bought a set of these at an auction where they were advertised as “thought to be either Waterford or Wedgwood”. I’m reasonably sure they aren’t either, definitely not Waterford since I looked carefully for the mark. These are unmarked but definitely leaded crystal, they literally sing at every touch. Could someone please help me identify them?

Also would this picture be good enough to give to replacements.com to identify? I’m having a hard time photographing them.

Crystal is hard to photograph....
I have no idea of the pattern....but try sending this picture....and then maybe try putting white paper inside the glass to maybe get a better picture of the pattern.
And....remember.."A rose by any other name is just as sweet"....does it matter what the name is? They are lovely glasses

This bowl and plate; It's of the late Depression glass period, the glassware that was often called "elegant depression" glass. In your picture there is no indication of size, so even approximate value is not possible. I'm not going to take the time to look for a positive ID on the maker and the pattern....but it's from the 1940's, appears to be nice glass and is either a mayonaise bowl and plate or a "center bowl and underplate...meant to go into the center of the table and be filled with fruit or flowers for decoration. Often there were matching candle sticks. Something in the back of my mind says Imperial Glassware. Hope this helps you out a little. Linda C

Well...I guess I was seeing the color right in the first picture. It's not cranberry glass......and I don't really know of any glass of the period you say, that is that color. Not to say it couldn't be...but I have never seen any. The colors in glass are produced by minral salts included in the glass. Cranberry glass ( that rosy pinkish red) is produced from gold salts, certain greens from uranium salts. That color has been produced in more recent eras...most specifically in Checzoslovakia and Bohemia....it could have been produced when you say and in France....but I don't know of any examples....nor can I find any on the web. If it is indeed art glass of the 1890 and as perfect as it seems and with 7 trumpets instead of the more usual 3 or 4, it's worth several thousands of $$....likely more than 4 thousand. But without finding an example or a better provenance that "my mother says one of my great aunts brought it over from France" it's hard to say it's worth more than one thousand. Linda C

American Brilliant period cut glass....made betweem 1880 and 1920...roughly. Very very nice! The prices on these pieces has gone south a bit....likely now you couldn't get more than $120 for it, but 25 years ago they were selling for twice that if they were perfect. Sorry I can't tell you the pattern nor the maker without a lot of research. Is there a signature on it anywhere? Maybe etched in the bottom, But perhaps near the rim? Those pieces were made of high lead content glass, then the basic bowl was polished and hand cut using a diamond wheel. Very expensive to make. Rings like a bell when you flick it with a fingernail!! Thanks Pamghatten! I don't know how I missed those. I have been searching all over the internet, eBay included trying to figure it out. Those look just like them the height matches, and the stem looks exactly the same when viewed from above. Looks like we will have to me more careful with them from now on.

To get a good photo, fill the glass with water, right up to the top. Put something dark, a solid black or dark blue woolen fabric works best, behind and beneath it. Take the picture in a bright, well lit room but without any light directly "hitting" the glass to make a shiny reflection or highlight. Your camera, phone, whatever it is, seems to be good enough to get you an excellent exposure.

Don't forget to tell them (or even us) the dimensions of the glass, height, diameter at the rim, and diameter at the foot.

Finding a maker's mark on glass can be difficult without a hands-free magnifier and a small but bright flashlight that will allow you to angle the light as you search, an effort to create a shadow. They're not cheap, but a #5 or #7 Mageyes (brand) magnifier does the trick very well, and they're readily available on both eBay and Amazon.

Thank you Linda! Yes they are so lovely! I wish I had bid on the water glasses too, I don't know what I was thinking!

cgard2 thank you for the great advice. I especially appreciate the advice on magnifying glasses, I've been using the one from my daughters' "science" kit.

Are they cut or molded?
There are more than a few other kinds of beautiful Irish cut crystal....most of it unmarked!

I think it's cut not molded since I think I can spot very very slight variations in the way some of the motifs are cut. I'm really not sure though, I'm no expert but I do love to learn, so please do share any insights! :)

Also I'm curious, how can you tell it's Irish?

I don't know it's irish....but the Irish make lots of lovely crystal that is not waterford and is not marked...so it could be...or not.
