What are your favorite features of walk-in kitchen pantries?
Comments (28)We remodeled our pantry a year or so ago, and here some of the things we did that I absolutely adore. 1: Adjustable shelving. I love being able to adjust each shelf to the height I need, so I can accommodate everything from cans to cereal boxes. I also prefer solid shelves to wire ones, but that’s mainly esthetic. 2: We have a 20” deep counter running the perimeter of the pantry, with multiple outlets. It’s deep enough to house small appliances, although the only one we use in there regularly is the Keurig. We have had instances where we plug something in for later, though... like when guests bring dishes in a crock pot. 3: The shelves above the counters are 15” deep. I find that things get lost if it’s much deeper. They go all the way to the ceiling, so we also have built-in storage space for a step stool. 4: The shelves below the counters are 18” deep. I keep toying with the idea of converting some (or all) of them to drawers for a cleaner look, but I definitely feel like 18” is deep enough to store small appliances and bulk supplies. 5: The lights are on a motion sensor, which is AWESOME. 6: My cabinetry runs along three walls, and was specifically designed around a piece of storage furniture I didn’t want to get rid of. It houses things like table clothes and fabric napkins, as well as candles and vases for centerpieces. I also collect vintage serveware, so I have lots of cubbies to display that. The fourth wall (where the door is) has hooks for my collection of aprons. This is what it looked like before. As you can see, the shelves that were there weren‘t super functional. It also had space for two appliances (Fridge and freezer? Two freezers?) that the previous owner had in there, but we installed fridge/freezer columns in our kitchen when we remodeled it, and didn’t need the extras. I didn’t like the heat they put off, either....See MoreKitchen remodel: range vs wall ovens, walk-in vs wall pantry?
Comments (22)You’ll be surprised at how much larger the range ovens can be than wall ovens. This is due to a lot of details but mainly because its easier to fit the electronics, thermal buffering, etc into a range so the oven cavity is bigger.... Although I’m partial to wall ovens (being one of those freaks that likes to hide every possible appliance due to the common open-concept living)......I can’t deny how nice it would be to have the ovens that are available in a range. I always say: the kitchen you’ll LOVE MOST is a kitchen thats functional for how YOU live. You can have the most magazine ready kitchen & still hate it if it doesn’t work for your lifestyle so forget all the fads & “rules” (as long as its not a structural or code rule hah)....If ur family tends to reach for snacks, drinks, etc while ur cooking then I say make it a priority to place your work triangle outside that zone! Wall pantries can absolutely hold just as much *if not more* than many of the small corner pantries that often have awkward corner shelves which are wasted storage space. straight boxes with pull outs don’t suffer wasted space which makes it possible to hold more items ☺️. I can see why you’d want to double up the next wall pantry area...Have u considered placing the cooktop in the corner & the wall ovens in the cabinet area beside the new closed in opening (in place of the upper/lowers)?...See MoreWalk-In Pantry / Butler Pantry combo?
Comments (12)IMO if you plan to use this as butlers pantry , I agree a good idea, then I would install a sink and use this space exactly like a real butlers pantry ,. Have you foor storage on one side with doors a simple set of sliding doors to make access easy. On the other side a nice set of base cabinets some glass cabinets above for all your dishes you use for entertaining and glassware , liquor and the sink is IMO a must . Set that side up as the service area for the DR and you have a perfect set up and please there is no reason to worry about moisture...See MoreAdd 1/2 bath to laundry room or convert walk in pantry to half bath
Comments (24)If you mean configuring the laundry and powder room into the utility room space, then a remodeling contractor should be able to help you with placement/code or maybe other ideas. I think, in an ideal world, we could all have all the space we need for all the elements in a house we want. But I'd rather have a powder/laundry combo, if I've determined that I need another 1/2 bath, rather than make do with one less bath than my family needs because some people object to having a W/D in proximity to a toilet, or whatever it is they object to. If you can squeeze enough space, I like the kinds of doors that pull out and tuck into the sides of the WD to hide it if you feel the need. I had both of these pics saved when I was trying to figure out how to move my w/d from a too small for today's large W/D units laundry room to my main floor bath. The first one is a bit hard to see but the doors slide/tuck in beside the machines....See Morevsr61
