What color tea kettle to compliment my new backsplash?
Comments (16)Thanks for the input. I guess I shy away from the blues as the kitchen is open and my primary colors are greens, a bit of reds and some yellow. It was also mentioned here at one point that the blue was "distracting". My initial thought was to go with a copper kettle. I love the Chantal copper kettle, but it is pricey at $160. My current blue Chantal Kettle was a bragain on clearance at Williams Sonoma for $11...yes $11:):)!! It is about 5 years old, so I certianly got my dollars worth...lol. Thank you Squirrel:) Can you believe that in one week I got shutters, a backsplash and the bedskirts for my boys rooms:) In the next few weeks I will have a lot of before and after pictures to post...then onto the pink nursery...totally new territory for me, the the mother of three boys. I really like the kettles you posted. Thank you...I love visuals:) Kimberly...See MoreTo backsplash or not to backsplash...that is the question
Comments (23)cigi, in our last house the previous owner installed tumbled marble in a mauvish tone which IMO looked awful with the St Cecilia granite. Even though the tile was expensive, I tore them off and left the 4" granite backsplash, patched and painted the rest of the wall. The sink was the only working area as the cooktop was on the island. No problem with water as I used BM Aura, but Pittsburgh Paint's Manor Hall Timeless is just as good with a more flat look and lifetime warranty. I'm pondering the issue for my current redo. In various houses I've had paint, wallpaper, white tile with abalone inserts, plain white tile. Right now I'm weighing white tile with a beautiful insert, just paint with no granite backsplash since this area has only a counter but no cooking/wet functions, paint with granite backsplash, or a simple glass tile backsplash with listello over it a la Chinchette. I'm attaching a photo from Chinchette's beautiful kitchen (hope she doesn't mind seeing hers cited as a great example) which shows the last option. In any event, I echo others' advice to not worry about that decision immediately unless you absolutely love a certain look. Just use good paint. Comments (33)Of romy's photos, I like that last tile color the best. I can almost picture it as a pale gray with a little bit of a green/blue undertone. ;) The second photo is the most interesting to me. There they've used a stacked mosaic glass tile. I love the little white shelf that matches the grout color. You'd really want the aqua stove too, don't you think? I also like the updated square tiles in photo 6. That would be appropriate to your house. I grew up in a 1954 Cape in upstate NY and we had square blue tiles in the bathroom, and a blue sink, toilet, and bathtub! Has it ever bothered you how the open storage wall was tiled? Typically we recommend stopping at the upper cabinet, not the counter. My eye keeps going to that inch or so of tile that juts beyond the upper cab....See MoreNeed fresh eyes re: my backsplash
Comments (29)Stephanie, it’s a beautiful space. Crackle is not without it’s maintenance issues, regardless of the manufacturer or the quality of install. You might call it a living surface that will “patinate” over time, meaning it will never be perfect once you start using it - which is exactly what you are experiencing. Stainless would definitely look out of place, but a sheet of your counter material behind the cooktop would be completely in keeping with the feel of the space. When you rule that out, come on back and we will get you the right tile, probably Fireclay Tile, possibly in Calcite....See MoreDenysse Smith
